    Porridge & Banana

Definitely cut out the bananas. 4 slices of bacon and 3 fried eggs is less than 3 gms of carbs. And my cholesterol levels are usually below or at the low end of normal. So much for the bad press for fats and eggs.

    Non Diabetic A1C

Wish I had found this forum 12 years ago. Well done Brendan_M. Do keep a close eye on your condition, monitor your bg to make sure you are not another Type and stay LC.

    Hi all...

To add to the good news for you, many of us on this forum have got our glucose levels under control. Some have seen their neuropathy go into remission or stop (I'm working on this). Diet is the key and I am now trying to keep my carbs to below 50 gms per day. Use the meter testing to see what...

Effect of porridge on blood sugar

My list of acceptable foods from a diabetic nurse when I first went on insulin included steel-cut oats for porridge as it had a low glycemic index. Oatmeal was also a standard part of the diabetic hospital diet for breakfast. So I regularly ate about a third of a cup for breakfast for several...

    Low carb

At some fast food places and better restaurants I can get a beef burger without the bun, It comes wrapped in lettuce and I don't miss the bread. Being English I was used to eating burgers with a knife and fork and get funny looks in Canada. Now I can eat with k & f with no worries.

Confused - could I be prediabetic?

Whatever the results come back and let us know how you are doing. My ND is pushing for a B12 test as my neuropathy is not improving quickly even though I am now at pre-diabetic bg levels. Maybe ask your doctor for this test if it is available where you live. Meanwhile we are sending positive...

How do you work out what amount of carbs to start on?

Because my bg is very sensitive to carbs I started at 80 gms about a year ago and I am now aiming for 50 gms per day. Initially I wanted to get off insulin (and did) and now I need to reverse my neuropathy. It was getting worse gradually for 5 years and now bg and neuropathy seem to be...

Type 2 What seems to be better for glucose and A1c, short but high spikes or lower but longer trends?

I am trying to see whether short but higher spikes are better for long term glucose levels say reaching 8.5% to 9% an hour after eating and back around 6% an hour later. Or is it better keep spikes lower but bg may not drop below 7% for a few hours. This may be related to glycemic index but I...

Newly diagnosed: Is My Experience Typical?

A belated welcome. I'm sure you wish you weren't here but this is the best place to get good information about our shared condition. I don't see that you have said what your A1c measurement was so it is difficult to see a start point. I would suggest a maximum of 80 gms of carbs a day and a...

    Type 2 Newly diagnosed, help!

I disliked the idea and actuality of finger pricking. As someone mentioned above make sure you use the sides of the fingers and not the thumbs. I started with the outside of my index finger on the RHS then worked around to the outside of my little finger on the LHS and then repeated. I would...

    Energy

I know many will think I am a 'conspiracy crazy' but on the west coast of Canada they have started spraying the sky again as the sunnier weather arrives. I know this was done in the UK 10 years ago and may still be happening. One possibility is that they are spraying aluminium oxide - very light...

    Type 2 Newly diagnosed, help!

You have to have a meter. I was on ever increasing meds for over 10 years because no-one said test your sugars at least 1 to 2 hours after each meal to see what affect the different foods have. If you have any sort of private health benefits see if the insurance company will cover the Freestyle...

    Energy

Someone with more medical knowledge can correct me but it seems that an easy way to give your body more energy is to increase the calories. You don't need to use carbs, and being skinny it sounds like your body is using existing internal protein. I am low carb and do not need to actively...

    Experiment anyone?

Liver tonight with bacon eggs and steak. (Sorry you UK people, our steak is much cheaper). Totally agree with not comparing since we are all different. I have not eaten a banana since 1/2 came as part of the diabetic diet last year in hospital and I saw what it did to my bg. The breakfast also...

    Type 3 after total pancreatectomy

Good to hear that you are back as a family. The Libre will be invaluable. I will not suggest what foods should be eaten as we all react differently. I will suggest that to start you may want to take readings very often especially after meals so that you can see which foods have the biggest...

Is It Time to Treat Sugar Like Smoking?

Like many things, sugar itself is not the culprit. It is our excessive use that has been actively pushed by big business for many years. Our ancestors did have sugars whether it was from honey, beets or other, usually, unprocessed sources. I am sure many of you have heard the phrase 'value...

Which has better chance for long term good health?

PS In case you didn't get it, this forum is THE BEST FOR LONG TERM HEALTH (sorry mod but this needs to be shouted). Tell everyone you know with our condition to get on here as quickly as possible.

Which has better chance for long term good health?

I wish I had known about this forum many years ago because relying on the usual drug focused treatments just meant things got gradually worse from 'pre-diabetic' (what does that mean?), through full T2 (what is that?) to 68 units of insulin per day (I know what that meant!). Not until I heard...

    Type 3 after total pancreatectomy

Although my operations were never this serious my body always reacted by making sure my glucose levels were high. This is needed to produce the high amount of energy that the body uses in healing. After my latest operation my health care people were excellent in monitoring my bg and adjusting...

How many have achieved long term reversal with LCHF?

Yes, that part of my pancreas that pushes my liver also works really especially with the dawn phenomenon that often causes bg of 7.8 to 8.2 with no food. Doesn't help when I want to keep my bg much lower. Don't think I can delay breakfast as the bgs keep going up!
