What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Thanks to ian for pointing me toward this chatty thread. :-) 5.8 this morning for me. I think this thread will be good for me. I've been tending to feel a bit sorry for myself that I eat low carb and still have prediabetic fasting numbers and my postprandial numbers still flirt in the high...

New Type 2, Questions & Concerns

Ian, do you have a place on the forum where you describe your experiment with the Dave Feldman protocol? I'd like to hear more of your story on that.

New Type 2, Questions & Concerns

isanpspurs - I was reading your signature and wondered if you have shared your story more elsewhere on this forum? You mention managing side effects with LC and your A1C not as low as you'd like - where are you now with your current approach? Thanks for any info.

    Can someone help explain???

Shaj07, it's pretty common for reactive hypoglycemia individuals to have a normal A1C (especially when they are young). Indeed, in some journal articles they just refer to it as a form of prediabetes. There are probably some spikes, as well as all those hypos, for many years before the Beta...

    fasting time

But I still want to point out that the Dawn Phenomenon happens to everyone, but people without blood sugar regulation problems do not test "prediabetic" as you put it when they take this test in the morning. In all likelihood you are prediabetic, with insulin resistance (or possibly insulin...

Fasting Sugar Levels Consistently Between 5.3mmol and 5.6mmol. Should I be worried?

If you are at a a healthy weight then it is probably time to lower your carbs (sadly, sorry to be the one to say it). It is the only way I can keep my post-prandial numbers normal. My FBG, btw, is stubborn, too, pretty much perpetually stuck at 5.6mmol/L.

Fasting Sugar Levels Consistently Between 5.3mmol and 5.6mmol. Should I be worried?

I've been using a meter for a few years, and now have a CGM. The variability between the two is typically 10%, and not always the same direction! Sometimes the CGM is 10% higher than the meter, sometimes it is 10% lower. So I'm really learning that the info I'm gathering needs to be focused...

Omega 6 to 3 ratio and inflammation

So much of our work managing our blood sugars comes down to the 80/20 rule, as someone pointed out! LOL! I think it really comes down to what you can comfortably maintain over the long-term. By cutting out processed foods 2 years ago, I feel like I made a huge improvement in avoiding the worst...

    Advice needed please

Yes, infection can make your blood sugar rise. Also, I recently had lamb curry with no rice and I still saw my numbers raise more than I was expecting. I decided the curry sauce has more sugar than I realized. So that's also a possibility.

    Magnesium - are you deficient?

So do you apply it every evening? And on your arms only, or also on your legs? And it looks like I can buy a spray, a lotion, or a gel - any recommendations?

    Magnesium - are you deficient?

I get the worst diarrhea and vomiting from the supplements. I will try the oils - I had read they weren't absorbed as well as oral supplements, but I'd like to give it a try since it has worked for you.

    Dexcom GMI help?

Well, thanks for trying, but I still don't have my answer. I really doubt this is a unit issue, but if it is, I need more explanation to understand. I'm in the U.S., so my meter uses % for A1C and it uses mg/dL for glucose. I was just trying to give you all here the proper British values so...

    Dexcom GMI help?

My Dexcom G6 reports my GMI (Glucose Management Indicator, which is their eA1C) at 5.8% (~45). However, it reports my average blood glucose at 103mg/dL (~5.5mmol/L). Do any CGM users have insight into this? I would predict my A1C to be 5.2% (~35) in this scenario. Note: My actual A1C in Nov...

    Are you allowed Cereal?

omg reading your post - I just realized why I had such bad stomach - aches the two days I had chia seeds in my yogurt!!! I was so wondering..... I never get "bloating" or "cramps" on low-carb, so I was thinking maybe some weird PMS thing (but that is highly unusual for me). Anyway, mystery...
