Any woman fancy becoming an Opera Buddy?

Thank-you AndBreathe. I should have said - I really don't expect any one person to do all the trips (one or two a month, with a big gap from November to March at the moment). My arrangement with my niece was that I would provide a list of bookings I had made (bearing her interests in mind) and...

Any woman fancy becoming an Opera Buddy?

Thanks folks. My main problem is that whilst I'm 73 on the outside (and look every year of it) I'm only 18 inside. I positively like doing silly things sometimes. :-) J.

Thank you Kat. I don't think there are a lot of forum members in my area, but I had to start somewhere :-)

Thank you Robin. I'm not expecting a lot of replies. I might well be happy with just one :-) John.

Any woman fancy becoming an Opera Buddy?

Hi All, Had a big bust up with my Opera Buddy (who is also my niece 61yrs). I got drunk today for the first time since 1968 - possibly I still am. Looking for a replacement. Objectives: Open and honest friendship with a lady who loves opera / classical music. Nothing else - no strings. My...

    Yearly test

Your results are absolutely amazing. Obviously a woman with what Baden-Powell used to call 'stickability'. You look fabulous in those photos (I'm 73 I can get away with those sort of comments :-))

    Belly Fat

Oh! You're Welsh. That explains the cabbage soup :) Her name is 'AndBreathe' as far as you and I are concerned 'rogerkbevan' and mine is 'notned'. Your handle is 'rogerkbevan' but for all I know you could actually be Fiona Simpleton-Smythe and I should be ignoring you :) 'AndBreathe' is one of...

    Can't give me my HbA1c?

My machine (or the site) went funny last night. There was no page 2 to this thread. Eventually, the whole thing froze with a 'Database error' or some such..

    Can't give me my HbA1c?

Hi Mep, Its a bit below the 40 my doctor wants to see. I don't know if I mentioned previously but he has reservations about patients who 'force' their figures down into the 30s.. Possible longer term problems. After the 36 in October I actually brought bread back into my diet to raise the...

    Belly Fat

Hi Roger, It looks to me that you are a follower of the low fat regime and 'five a day'. And that is 'healthy eating'. The first of those is now totally discredited - indeed some eminent international doctors actually blame the obesity epidemic on the low fat diet. For the second, there is no...

    bs, smoking and weight

I packed up smoking in the first years of this century. I'll admit to 40 a day at that time (it was more). The darn patches wouldn't stick. The chewing gum got stuck in my teeth. Eventually I found lozenges and packed up. My wife (who smoked as many) packed up at the same time using just mint...

    Can't give me my HbA1c?

Sorry I've been away again. First chemo last Thursday. What do I do with the carrier bag full of drugs they've sent me home with? My docs answer was (words to the effect of) "The trouble is that it doesn't stop with a number given over the phone. Many want to discuss the implications of that...

    Can't give me my HbA1c?

Hi Mep, I'm happy with 37 - I could have got it lower but my doc said he wanted it about 40. He said he'd heard of some people having problems when they 'forced' it below 40. Seeing him tomorrow. I'm prepared to bet he's still happy with it :) J.

    Can't give me my HbA1c?

Sorry I disappeared. The last couple of weeks have been a real roller-coaster. A lump formed under my jaw a couple of months after my wife passed away a year ago. For 8 months every test said it was benign. In December I insisted that I wanted it removed which was done on 5 January. On 14...

    Can't give me my HbA1c?

Today, as I've done since 2012, I rang my GP's for my HbA1c result - blood taken last Thursday. Young Lady: "Yes, it is back, doctor says it's OK.". Me: "Thank-you, what is the figure?". YL: "I'm sorry, I can't tell you that, but you can book an appointment with the doctor or diabetic nurse."...

    High sugars - help please!

Watch out for the sauces too. I eat a lot of salads and recently bought a delicious salad dressing. The second time I used it I weighed it - to find that the carbs from the dressing were more than those in the rest of the meal put together and that meal included strawberries and cream!

How did you feel about switching onto injections?

I was on insulin when they woke me from a 5 week induced coma to get rid of double pneumonia. As 'ukwombat' said above - it was what was needed and the alternatives didn't sound too appealing. The first year (2013) I think I was in denial. In January 2014 a scan showed that I had cirrhosis -...

    newly diagnosed any advice welcome

Hi Mike, It's a learning curve. You should probably prepare to be confused and then get ready to face some lifestyle decisions. You have obviously got a meter. Are you using insulin or do you have a good GP? You have blood glucose at 6.5 before meals - hopefully before all your meals - and I...
