    Insulin & metformin

I take both, although I have yet to see any significant weight loss from it...... I have started slimming world however but I believe the weight loss recently has been from that.... I do believe the metformin has reduced my basal insulin though....

    basal bolus mixture

I was on such a mix form 1999 to 2008..........Humilin M3 or something like that.... This type of insulin is still prescribed but it doesn't suit the modern human...

    metformin

I take it and although I have been on slimming world, I do believe it has helped me reduce my basal doses....without a doubt.... I wouldn't say it's a big effect but its certainly helped drive the Hb down a few decimals..(%)... it may even have some other health benefits to do with the...

I was put on a diabetes trial as I was tested and came back as higher risk....one half of participants on a pill, the other a placebo... Diagnosed a year into the trial, was very calm as my...

    “Spikes” and Recovery

Depends on what your health needs are..... Personally as a type one I would be happy with that spike.....although single figures are preferred.... if you observe this spike for only a short period then damage is unlikely.....but if you want to eliminate it then medication adjustment/or...

    My hba1c is bad

are you on a split dose of basal.......? and I assume there is no Libre to help you....?. instead of going every hour you could do only one test at the beginning and at the end of the chosen time slot you are testing, which would give you a rough idea of what might be going on....

Does anybody else inject in the morning without food?

Sounds like the effects of the morning hormones........... if you aren't eating till 1pm then your liver will be providing assistance to help you start the day in the absence of any fuel in the gut....there may also be some cortisol about which will increase your resistance to insulin....

    Red red wine

wine, unless a sweet wine, has no carbs in it.......shouldn't really be more aggressive than whiskey as you say when it comes to the livers response......maybe your liver just doesn't like the alcohol from grapes....;)

Which is better a mixed insulin or bolus and background

Multiple injections is much better suited to the worlds level of knowledge when it comes to diabetes management.... I felt that the mixed insulin was suited to a time where there was less knowledge and understanding overall....

    Hba1c and cholesterol levels

You had a reduction in cholesterol did you not? It may be that there has been an increase in the bad one (LDL) and you haven't seen the break down of HDL/LDL.. I personally would take what receptionists say with a pinch of salt and speak to the doctor...

    Type 1 Fasting

if the basal is correct, in this case the Lantus, then you would be holding steady within +/- 2mmol...... if you have to reduce it in the absence of food, then its already too high.... Lantus inst too flexible though especially if you need different amounts of it from day to night...

Type 1 What is the cause for blood spikes in evenings?

It sounds like you have got carried away a tad....... a reduced number of meals wouldn't mean a reduced dose of Levemir as that dose isn't dealing with your meals..... so you need to make sure that Levemir dose is working with basal tests.......you could also split that Levemir dose to an...

Rapid weight gain following starting pump

I lost a stone when going on the pump......and this was mainly because I literally halved my basal insulin......due to the ability of setting multiple basal rates over a 24 hour period... so the question I would ask is are you taking more basal? have you done basal testing over the whole day?

Help for dealing with insulin resistance?

This has happened a few times over the years....... the best thing to do is basal test and adjust the dose up by smaller increments if you are scared of hypos.... this is just standard practice dose adjustment although I realise not everyone has the experience or knowledge..
