    Constipation :(

Anyone got any good food suggestions for constipation? I think I have been low carbing (or rather, high protein ing - I'm sure it isn't lack of carbs that are the problem) rather too vigourously, and as a result am, ahem, rather "bunged up". I have bought some psyllium powder from Holland and...

    What have you eaten today?

Woo how! I suddenly remembered that one of my favourite snacks has always been thinly sliced cheddar cheese with some picked onions. And realized that that would be fine on LCHF - so I've just filled myself up on 50g cheddar and a handful of silver skin picked onions. Had a very low carb and...

    Unwell diabetic?

I would go and get a test from the GP simply because that is quite a simple thing to check and it would stop you having to guess and speculate. For what it's worth, and you can make of this what you want, your blood sugars both pre and post meals are almost identical to mine right now - I was...

So depressed & scared & lonely

Re: So depressed & scared & lonely I'm so sorry, Trudy, for the loss of your friend, and at such a young age, how terribly sad :( {{{{{{{hugs}}}}}} Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

How deeply ironic that the nurse is making *medication decisions* based on your meter readings and they are STILL rationing the strips! Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Eat to Meter?

And to that list I would add fruit and fruit juice (especially fruit juice - at least raw fruit has some nutritional benefits to go along with the carbs). Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

Hester, as far as weight loss is concerned, I have a LOT more to lose than you, and I haven't particularly been shying away from fats (and have easily lost around 8kg in two weeks, without ever feeling hungry or having any cravings). What I don't know is whether it affects cholesterol/lipid...

I think if you're only using the code free, then the discrepancy probably doesn't even matter at all - might just be a nice surprise when you have your hba1c. It's for those of us that use two meters when a discrepancy can be annoying. And in fact the more I use code free the more I like it...

    Just another newbie...!

Oh I quite agree. And I would have no problem awarding DLA to somebody with Meniere's, if it was causing them that many problems. Can't speak for ATOS - they're a law unto themselves but it doesn't surprise me. But none of that is Kirsty's fault, which is why I felt the poster's attitude was...

Yay! Strawberries and cream! :) definitely happy to allow myself three or four at least, especially if the cream helps things Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    What have you eaten today?

I did some "damage" yesterday from a poorly thought out Chinese. "Seaweed", I thought. "What carbs could there be in seaweed?" Until they brought it out. Covered in sugar. Spiked to 8.9 following that meal :( Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Anyone else been in denial?

Well done on your weight loss Sharon, that's brilliant! Even though you don't take sugar, don't drink pop, eat chocolate etc, there may still be pitfalls in your diet that you don't realize - when I started low carbing I was really shocked to find out how high in carbs some things were. I don't...

Hi Hester and welcome! You are getting through! But if you are able to work out how to post your own thread that would be even better because sometimes posts get a bit "lost" at the bottom of someone else's thread. I think my advice if you haven't already got one is to buy a carb counting book...

    Just another newbie...!

Wow, Kirsty "makes you sick" but then you want her to chat with you and give you advice? <blinks> It sounds like you have a lot of very unpleasant medical conditions, but as I'm sure you know, to get HRM DLA you have to be "virtually unable to walk". There is no lesser degree of mobility that...

    Can anyone explain?...

I will definitely watch that! I have a vague memory of watching that when it came out, but I wasn't diabetic then and the insulin stuff would have gone in one ear and out the other. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

I bought a Code Free from Amazon to supplement my prescription strips (freestyle optium). I like it, but like others have said, it always seems to run a bit higher. At the moment I am still dual-testing (using the same drop of blood for both strips) and I'm settling on between 0.7 and 1.0 mmol...

    What have you eaten today?

Well, it's how my diabetes app calculates it, but basically if something doesn't have any carbs (or hardly any) but lots of fibre, then it gives the value as a negative presumably because the fibre slows down the absorption of any carbs that you are having in the rest of the meal. If that's...

Sorry Ali, you're right, I suppose what I meant to say is that they're not zero carb. 150g strawberries is about 8.5g net carbs. Another measure I've seen is that a good sized strawberry has about 1g carb each. If that fits into your allowance then enjoy! Also, I think adding cream is supposed...

Thank you Yorksman! That's really interesting! Trying to figure out now from that what is the best kind of exercise to do -prolonged and moderate, or short and intense (I can't do long and intense I'm afraid!) Sent from the Diabetes Forum App
