High BG late evening, what is the best thing to do?

Thanks Daisymoomoo and Brett. That's really helpful advice. I hear what you are saying about the evening snacking. I am going to try and cut right down on evening snacks. I guess I have been trying to avoid the inevitable sensible eating and instead looking for a magic bullet to allow my bad...

High BG late evening, what is the best thing to do?

Hi daisymoomoo, It is not every night, usually just when unbudgeted snacking takes place or unusual events (eating out). I guess the honeymoon period has come to a sudden end and I now have to inject for everything, where I got away with a lot over this last year. I am having to re-educate...

    Creative User Names

Flakey Bake. I would like to say everything tastes better when wrapped in pastry. Alas it is my husbands pet name for me, given in honour of my moderate psoriasis problem and the fact I tend to shed skin everywhere like a flakey baked pasty; sorry you did ask .

High BG late evening, what is the best thing to do?

Thanks Omar101. That something I might try. I spoke with my dietician last week about this and she suggested getting the basal dose correct first then trying splitting. I think is may help. Thanks.

High BG late evening, what is the best thing to do?

Hi everyone, I am looking for a bit of advice. I am just coming to the end of the honeymoon period and with the help of my diabetes dietician I have started carb counting. I do ok for the most of the day but thing tend to go wrong later on in the day. Sometime it is my own fault (snacking)...

    Tonsils are FINALLY coming out!!!

Good luck with that. I had mine out a couple of years ago. It is unpleasant, but was really worth it. My tonsillitis is no more and all those coughs and colds that used to flatten me for days are now just a minor irritation. Unfortunately it took me a long time to recover (about 4 weeks)...

    Hypo

Hi, You had good advice from people who have responded so far about adjusting insulin and testing etc. I would like add from my limited experience (newish type 1 too), I get the usual hypo symptoms (shakes, sweats, bad temper) as my BG drops slowly, but if it drops very quickly I go from feeling...

Strange and sudden hypo caused by basal insulin?

Thanks everyone for the replies. Sorry for not posting sooner but I have been without internet for a few days. After reading everyone's suggestions I think I may have been spectacularly unlucky and hit a bigger capillary( I had a heck of a bruise afterwards). I definitely did not take bolus...

    Hypo Onset Speed

Hi Hale, did you take a basal dose just before you dropped? I had a similar experience last night and I think I might have hit a blood vessel with my basal dose, my BG dropped like a stone from 7.8 to 2.1 within 10 mins of taking my basal insulin.

Strange and sudden hypo caused by basal insulin?

Hi. I am still quite new to being a type 1. I am coping pretty well with the insulin regime and for the most part have thing reasonably well balanced with only a few mild hypos. Then last night I had a real fright. My BG was 7.8 at bedtime and I took my usual basal insulin dose (lantus) and...

Progression from diagnosis to insulin? How long?

Just to update you. I have now been re-diagnosed as type 1. I am starting to settle onto the basal bolus regime. Hopefully I will get on a dafne course soon and really get control. Thanks for the replies.

Just been diagnosed with Type 2

Hi Runci, It sound like your body has been running with high blood sugar for a while. When you have a constant high blood sugar you adjust to it and it becomes the norm. When you first start treatment your blood sugar can drop a lot (in my case about 15 point overnight). This can produce the...

    Is this normal for medication

Hi Mch1966, I was diagnosed about a 1.5 years ago and had very similar problems. I have since discovered that many of the medications used to treat type 2 often take a few weeks to take full effect and BG to settle. That is why when your meds get changed (as they do a lot when you are first...

    Comfy Shoes

Hi there, I have wide achey feet which don't do well in heels. I have found a brand called "Josef siebel", which are made of soft leather, really good soles and last forever. I have never suffered a blister breaking a pair in. They are not officially wide fit, but are generous ( I normally take...

Progression from diagnosis to insulin? How long?

Thanks Daibell. I don't think I quite fit clearly into either catagory. I think I am progressing very quickly, which I am quite narked about as I have tried so hard. I know I will adjust to an insulin/byetta regime, whatever that will entail for me. I will ask about GAD testing. Cheers

    Media Outburst

I guess I have stuck my head above the parapet! All I am trying to say is that is there is far more to the development of type 2 than just obesity and this blame game is really not helpful. Coincidentally, the rise in type 2 prevalence is not just related to the rise in obesity, yes it is...

    Media Outburst

Hi, I am feeling a bit sensitive about diabetes at the moment. I was diagnosed at just age 37 with type 2. Yes I was overweight, but active, didn't drink, didn't smoke, didn't eat high sat.fat diet (just low fat and "healthy carbs" which I now know is stuffed with sugar). I took my medication...

Progression from diagnosis to insulin? How long?

Hi, I am relatively new (probable) type 2. I was diagnosed a year and a half ago at age 37 with a random BG of 29. After starting metaformin and glipizide I got my diabetes and diet under control, lost 4 stone and was almost at the point of stopping all medication. I thought I had it all sorted...
