    Welcome to the Vegetarian/Vegan Forum

Hmmm .. seems like this forum has faded away. Are there still any veggies or vegans out there? I've been veggie since 1982 and vegan for a couple of years. It was an ethical/ religious choice so I am undoubtedly vegan as opposed to someone following a PBD. I also use a vegan diet to help keep my...

    HbA1c

Nah - she just wants me to hang around fit and well. Not a bad suggestion when you think about it.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

6.1 for me this am. First fasting test in months as I let disciplines go badly. As a result I heard yesterday that my HbA1c had gone from 38 to 47. Time to get my act into gear again! - so here I am!

    HbA1c

Thanks both for the kind words. You are both right of course and I do know what to do. Tonight I tested after my evening meal and it came out at 5.6 so I am back on track. Sadly tonight my wife is both upset and angry about my result. I don't blame her - she has been through a lot and this added...

    HbA1c

Hi guys. Well today I've had a bit of a rude awakening. My HbA result just came back and it was 47. Not the best news I've ever had and I know it's happened because I became complacent. Two years ago it was a healthy 38 and had been for a couple if years. Since then I've let my diet go and...

    Sugar free maple syrup

Cheers. ATM I only use Stevia and then only for my espresso or in my breakfast. Can't say I'm super keen on artificial sweeteners as I suspect some taste a bit like sugary sheep poop and have the same nutritional benefit [emoji3]

    Sugar free maple syrup

Nor me to be honest. Sweet things have largely been off the menu for some time, but I do enjoy a muesli breakfast and I've managed to find a right blend of fruit and nut that keeps my BG within range but it does use Stevia. If this syrup is an option it may be worth a try.

    Sugar free maple syrup

Yeah I know. I read that too but has anyone tried it and is it any good?

    Sugar free maple syrup

Hi people. I am in the UK and T2D. Today, my wife was in a health food store and came across a product made by Good Good advertised as sugar free maple syrup. Has anyone tried it? Is it suitable for diabetics (it does say it is on the jar)? And does it taste any good? Ta muchly

    HbA1c

Delighted to report that for the third year in a row my HbA's have come back a resounding success. This year my result showed a score of 38 so for the third year my T2 is in total remission. Of course, the price of peace is eternal vigilance, but tonight I am a seriously happy bunny

Can a vegan diet improve sugar control ?

Just to add to this discussion, I am vegan with an HbA1c of 41 on the last count. Does veganism help keep my sugars low? It's like every other kind of diet -it depends what you eat. Chocolate, potatoes and sugar is all vegan but obviously off the menu. I eat a lot of beans, some seitan and...

How not to fart on low carb ???

Hi Swissmiss. I've been a veggie/ vegan since 1983 and I remember when I "saw the light" that eating beans acted like rocket fuel. Fortunately, your gut will adjust though it may take a little time. In the beginning try going for "softer" beans like butter beans or aduki before you build up to...

    Anyone else vegan?

I guess at the end of the day it comes down to moral and ethical choice. I choose to live a vegan life because it is right for me. Is it right for everyone? Well the science shows unequivocal benefits from eating vegan. However, it does rather feel like food fascism to suggest everyone MUST eat...

    Anyone else vegan?

My wife brought in seitan BBQ steak and fruit cake! Yay! I can eat tonight [emoji5]

    Anyone else vegan?

Duly noted @Pipp and apologies if my response was a bit OTT. Hopefully you'll forgive if you know that ATM I am in hospital with pneumonia (ok .. ok ... I admit it, I'm playing the sympathy card [emoji3]). Oh .. and being Veeg and diabetic in hospital is a nightmare!!!!!

    Anyone else vegan?

And why do you think they are unfertilised? Where do you think the male chicks go? If you don't know then you remain happier ignorant but I have photographs if you wish to see. They are not for the squeamish.

    Anyone else vegan?

Oh .. and as an addendum, as someone who hasn't had an egg in any form for many years, my current HbA1c is 38 (last year 36) and my HDL and LDL cholesterol levels are all in normal range. Maybe a vegan diet really can work for you. Can it?
  18. Welshman1952

    Anyone else vegan?

Ok so theoretically, I could kill a baby chick for that additional 15% of cholesterol requirement despite extensive evidence that shows there are many plant-based alternatives. Plus there is plenty of research out there showing that eggs are contraindicated for people who are diabetic or have...

    Anyone else vegan?

@Kristin251 if you really want to be Veeg then don't be put off by the nosayers. There are many diabetics out there who follow a low a low carb diet and are exclusively plant-based. I know because I'm one of them. The secret to eating Veeg and being healthy is ALWAYS plan your meals AND test...
