Specialist thinks I may be type 1 now?

Insulin doesn't make you put weight on. Having blood sugar levels constantly in the teens is likeLy to be, unhealthily, stopping you being able to gain weight, or causing untried for weight loss. It sounds like LADA, or slow onset type 1, is a possibility. Gliclazide isn't really recommended...

Specialist thinks I may be type 1 now?

That reads like nonsense. If type 2 increased the likelihood of type 1 there would be many documented cases of people with a confirmed type 2 diagnosis later having antibody positive confirmed type 1. And there simply aren't.

    Help Understanding Blood Sugars?

There's nothing strange about those readings. They are perfectly normal. Why are you testing?

Specialist thinks I may be type 1 now?

Type 2 doesn't turn into type 1. They are separate conditions. What your specialist is saying is you may have been misdiagnosed as type 2 when you have been type 1 all along. The tests to find out whether this is correct would be: A cpeptide test. This may be the urine tests you've been...

    Overwhelmed

What day to day activities are you stuggling to complete and why? I was living at home when diagnosed, at 25 (it was peak recession) and I was grateful for my mums help with hypos on a couple of occasions (well, one was my very first hypo, which was a false hypo, and the second, well she very...

Rather not eat than take insulin

The reason I ask is your very low insulin doses. The treatment for MODY isn't insulin, it's sulphonyurea. So it seems worth looking into. As mentioned before, there is no point doing genetic testing for MODY if the type 1 diagnosis is confirmed with positive antibody testing. The antibody...

Rather not eat than take insulin

I believe I've asked you this before - http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/it-is-impossible-to-carb-count.126861/m- but have you, and your father, had antibody testing for a confirmed type 1 diagnosis? If not, have you looked into to MODY testing?

Rather not eat than take insulin

Maybe have a look at the diabetics with eating disorders forum? Tagging @asortafairytale a DWED moderator to look in and offer some advice on this.

Screw the conversion and treat your hypo. Worry about what it would be in mg/dL later.

    Heart Rate above 100bpm

No, there isn't. Average resting heart rate for adults is 60-100bpm. So, you're at the top of the range, but still normal. You might just be a bit unfit/not terribly active. An athlete might have a resting heart rate more around 40bpm. It's normal for activity to raise the heart rate. That's...

    what happens now?

Yes, over 20. Yes, as mentioned, 8 might be considered very slightly elevated, but it is certainly not diagnostic of diabetes. It's perfectly normal for a non diabetic to have a random blood glucose of 8. Only if it goes over 11.1 are concerns about diabetes raised. The finger prick blood test...

    69mmol/mol = 8.5% Lynz's 8.9% = 74mmol/mol There's a tool here to convert between the DCCT % figures and the IFCC mmol/mol figures - http://www.diabetes.co.uk/hba1c-units-converter.html The target is under 6.5% or 48mmol/mol

    what happens now?

Type 1 diabetes is indeed usually diagnosed by a single finger prick blood test. That finger prick blood test would be over 20. A random blood sugar of 8 doesn't suggest diabetes. It's normal, any non diabetic can get an 8 after eating. To raise concerns about diabetes it would have to be over...

    t1d and dofe

Extra kit won't be an awful lot of use in the bus if you're half an hours walk away and having a hypo. Any extra kit you need to deal with pumping will be containable in a little enough kit to just keep with you, stick it in your backpack. Obviously if your doing DofE you'll be doing a fair bit...

    Petition help

How exactly would carb content be included in the traffic light system, whet carb content would constitute red, amber or green and how would that be of any use to a type 1 diabetic who can adjust their insulin to deal with whatever they choose to eat? Pregnancy prep

Most clinics will do a pre pregnancy check - so ladies with type 1 trying to conceive are advised to have a hba1c under 48 (6.5%) and be on the heavy dose folic acid (5mg). The targets during pregnancy are under 5.3 fasting, under 7.8 1hr after eating and under 6.4 2hr after eating. It's worth...

    Failed GTT & Circumstances

Your hypochondria? You obviously have fairly significant anxiety and this can cause physical symptoms. Your UTI? Obviously, if you have an infection, you'll be feeling under the weather. It doesn't seem like the sweating, rapid heart beat and shivers are anything to do with glucose.

    Can anyone help

Who is right on diagnostic levels, the qualified nurse, or your brother? Let's see, the WHO criteria for diagnosis of diabetes say only random blood sugars (that is, not a fasting blood sugar, over over 11.1 should raise a concern for diabetes -...

    No time to inject!

@Sarah69 the information bit on your page says you're a HCA, so presumably you work in a hospital or a care home? I can't see either location having any issue with you injecting in the staff room /canteen. There's no need to inject in the toilet. Do you have your blood sugar testing kit and...
