    confused

Exercise affects blood Glucose in ways that can be difficult to predict in the short term. Vigorous exercise can often raise BG in the short term as your liver dumps glucose into the bloodstream to keep up with the energy you are using, just like it does every morning for those who have...

    Blood Pressure Problems

While what @JoKalsbeek says is very partly true, several 'low carb' doctors say 'don't blame salt for what sugar did!' - meaning that a 'normal' high carb way of eating tends to increase both weight and blood pressure. But a low carb way of eating, even when adding extra salt (which I do), to...

How quickly should I lose how much weight?

Hi @Davido Jones and welcome to the forum. I was fortunate enough to find that with a Low Carb Way of Eating (WOE) I was losing around 1lb to 2lbs per week without bothering about calories (or any additional exercise) all I did was use a Blood Glucose meter to test how much and of which foods I...

    Eating in the right order?

I don't understand why people try to cheat low carb - just don't eat the carbs and you won't get the spike. Eat something to block the digetsion of the carbs, or drink(low carb alcohol) and you push the reation to the carbs out a few hrs to when youre not expecting it. What good does that do you?

    Blood Pressure Problems

Yes, it's well known that eating low car (for most people) normalises Blood Pressure so they find they can either reduce BP meds, or eventually come off them completely. I was on 2 BP meds (from coronary bypass) when I went low carb to get my T2D in remission. Had to come off them so as not to...

    Lowering blood sugars

Low Carb works for most people. Use a BG meter or CGM to test that your meals are low enough in carbs. Here's the simple blog post which got me on the path to T2D remission (over 4yr remission so far): https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html You really need your...

    Help!.carb counting and bolognese sauce?

We are all different, so you may be OK eating an apple, but I can't eat a raw carrot without seeing it raise my BG. The advice you have been given is a simplified one-size-fits-all approach. Protein and Fat have hardly any effect for a T2 diabetic, but carbs can vary tremendously. If you want...

    Testing

Because of other factors (exercise, alcohol, sleep, time of day etc.) it's best check a few times to make sure meals are consistently OK. After that there is no need to check except to monitor if your insulin production, insulin resistance etc. is getting better or worse.

    Advice please

What makes you think that management for Type 3 (pancreas damage) is the same as for Type 2 (insulin resistance)? Also (unless I'm mistaken) your C-peptide test is showing that you are producing plenty of insulin, so this would tend to negate the idea of you being a Type 3. Why are you avoiding...

Fasting blood jumped up to 11

Hi @Robti I think you may have already diagnosed the reason for the high Fasting BG when you say you didn't feel well at dinner and so passed on it. There are around 40 non-food reasons for high BG and being unwell is one of them. When our body feels we need more energy (to fight off...

    Pancreas..... can it die

As a slim Type 2 (in remission now for over 4yrs) I feel that at least in my case it's the insulin resistance which caused the weight gain, since I was gaining weight over the long time (around 10yrs) when eating the NHS advised Low Fat (high Carb) so-called heart healthy way. The increase...

    Are these reading any good.

Both your meals worked in stopping your severe Dawn Phenomenon, which is great. Somewhat surprisingly both meals got your 2hr post prandial BG down to 7.3, so neither of them can have been actually bad. However the allowed accuracy for BG meters means that you can't really tell how well your...

Still in remission after 10 years

Well done, @Daphne917 10yrs remission is a great story of success. My GP and DN both said that I'm unique in their practice for being in remission. They claim no other patient of their's could stick to Low Carb long enough to get into remission. I replied that since all the patients see is low...

    Are these reading any good.

To put it simply, if you are not on insulin or Glic or other medication known to cause hypo's; and you are just a Type 2 (without RH) then you are extremely unlikely to ever see a number which is 'too low'. Even numbers which would cause a Type 1 or RH to worry and reach for the glucose tablets...

    Prediabetes newbie

Hi @Catmad14 and welcome to the forum. If you take action, with any luck your pre-diabetes won't get any worse. I don't know the details of what this 'NHS nine month programme', but apart from Drugs and Bariatric Surgery there are 3 main methods for controlling full diabetes (or putting it into...

Hi @niknaknoo2 We have several threads on Cholesterol and statins that you may like to read (just use the search function). However, I have never heard of an 'equivalent cholesterol number'. Each person is different, so it's something that I believe we should all read up on and form our own...

    New T2 (No meds)

Breakfasts are an easy fix for most people. Breakfast cereals nearly all contain lots of carbs. Instead, think of a traditional British fry-up with bacon & eggs and/or mushrooms, low carb sausages, possibly tomatoes, but no baked beans, no potato, no toast, no fruit juice. Back when I ate...

    Online dietician recommendation?

Hi @Kuba85 I'm a Type 2 rather than a Type 1, but I do take an interest in most things related to Diabetes diets. Many Type 1 members of this forum eat fewer carbohydrates than are in a 'normal diet' and thus reduce the amount of insulin they need to inject and with that reduce the chances of a...
