    Insulin and weight gain

... I didn't eat excessive food or carbs, just had a bad reaction to Lantus & Levemir... ;-) Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

Help please from people who use Porcine insulin...

.... Ah yes, I guess I meant to say reduced risk of night hypos :-) - I know there's no magic guaranteed 'no hypo' insulin... Yet... We can but hope... :-) - and also interesting you mention the slight tail kick; I defo have that - but mine seems to happen at the 5hr mark... All useful stuff...

Higher than normal white blood cells

Mine are the opposite: too low.... have been for a loonnngggg time now though, so who knows if related...? I guess type 1 is an auto-immune condition, so there could be a link....?

Help please from people who use Porcine insulin...

Yes @anna29 - I'm defo getting the kick - which I *MUCH* prefer over the gentle "warning" of Levemir! Yes, it's a stronger / more instant feeling; which isn't all that pleasant - but I'm terrified of hypos, so for me the insistance of the porcine is massively reassuring.... I also don't drop...

Help please from people who use Porcine insulin...

Ah - thanks @CarbsRok! :-) ....so it basically offers more flexibility still - just perhaps not *quite* as much as with the analogues, owing to the slower action.... is that right? Am I right in thinking it also makes it easier to get your nigh time doses right, with less risk of a hypo...?

    Blood colour/consistency

Really funny timing.... I was only wondering this morning why sometimes my blood looks WAY darker and less "runny" than other times.... I *think* this tends to happen when I'm a bit on the low side - though possibly it's just when I'm a bit dehydrated.... I've not really monitored it as it...

    Insulin and weight gain

I did gain weight on Lantus and Levemir, but lost it again when I came off them.... so as ever, we're all different. Like Shedges and Noblehead said, I never count calories - only carbs - and I have between 90-130g carbs a day, plus lots of walking :) PS - my TDD on analogues was between 15...

Help please from people who use Porcine insulin...

Oh.... how odd - I only just saw this reply.... :-/ - I take more Isophane in the morning too, and then three units at night :-) I'm starting to wonder about a pump - but I'm confused, as my understanding is that people use pumps as it gives them more flexibility (over exercise choices, food...

    FREESTYLE LIBRE ON SALE!!!!

I don't think you can... You have to let the reader know when you've put it in to start it - and it switches itself off automatically 14 days after that start point. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    I give up :(

... could a pump be an option for you...? Depending on what the incident was - because I know the pump is harder work than MDI's... but it's also much smaller doses - which may help relive your anxiety? Perhaps an option to think about / discuss with your DSN...

Fascinating! How to reduce the spike in starchy carbs :)

An experiment on BBC 2 last night about the effects of cooling down and reheating foods like potatoes and pasta has on our blood sugar - the results are intriguing.... ! .... I don't know if it would work for us, or work enough - but it's super interesting nonetheless! :-)...

    High blood sugar and terrified

As Cloe says, your GP is incorrect - you should definitely get more appointments and scans than a non-diabetic - I have been told this too. I'm not sure what other advice we can offer - other than to say try to be seen by your actual diabetic clinic, not just your GP, asap. Sorry for your...
