Ah, but have you checked your LibreLink Alarm settings?

    Blood sugar Control

I have the same problem with good and bad days with my BS and insulin. My highest was 21 mmol a couple of days ago! Even with my Libre 2 I rarely have a predictable BS result. I keep my carbs down and go to the gym and I'm slim. You are not alone....

    Diabetes care via telephone??

Hi. Yes, all carbs are a problem for us. The body doesn't need any sugar intake as it can get all the glucose it needs from fats & proteins plus any carbs you do have. Sweeteners are not a problem for us; I always use them for me tea & coffee.

That's generally good advice but the 2 litres a day won't do any harm but the figure was plucked from thin air by someone in the USA so just be sensible with drinking.

    Newly diagnosed? Low HBA1C high

Hi. Yes, do consider T1 (LADA) as a possibility. Often ketones aren't present but worth testing for anyway if you feel unwell. Getting a meter is important for you so you can then spot if your blood sugar is going up. Keep the carbs in your diet down as this will help both blood sugar and...

    Libre 2 alarms every night

I assume you have checked the settings for low-glucose alarms in LibreLink. The default is 3.9 mmol.

    Verbal alarms on dexcom?

I rarely see the 'try again in 10 mins' with my Libre 2 sensors

    Weight loss & diabetes

I have to disagree with the consultant. You can adjust your weight if you adjust the carbs. Just reduce the insulin in line with reducing the carbs. I keep my weight under control by keeping the carbs near to 150g/day. if I didn't do that i would gain weight.

Interesting report on insulin and weight loss

    I'm a ND skeptic :)

GP surgery no longer carrying out diabetic annual feet checks

I still have foot checks but to be honest I've never really understood the real need for them. There are far more important checks needed by all of us. If your HBA1C remains in good range the checks aren't needed and waste surgery time.

    New to Diabetes Advice Required

Hi. It's best to largely ignore the fasting tests due to the overnight liver dump.

Help! Type 1 for 16years-antibodies negative!

Hi. Yes, after that time a GAD test will no longer show antibodies. The C-Peptide test is more useful overall to help define T1.

    Type 2 Liver failure

Hi. If you are on Metformin that can cause a metallic taste as it did for me for 6 months. That beer intake is a bit on the high side as beer is high in carbs. Make sure it has a low alcohol content.

Type 1 Honeymoon phase: when/how long?

Hi. Well my honeymoon phase lasted 6-7 years! There are different causes of beta cell death and in my case I believe a virus was at work. My insulin needs have gradually increased during the 5years or so that I've been on Basal/Bolus. Just be prepared to increase your insulin as needed in the...

    Medication Review

Hi. Did the GP offer you Metformin SR (Slow Release) instead of the standard form? It's much kinder. Yes, ask for online access to your records.

    Overnight level not coming down.

I found the 2 week free trial eye-opening. I now know what happens during the night and as I'm on insulin I can adjust the Basal. It's not so easy if not on insulin.

    I just joined the T2 club :(

Hi. The debate about fats continues but many now challenge the view that fats are harmful and clog the arteries. Fats go thru a complex metabolic process in the body compared with carbs that turn to glucose in the stomach and will be stored as fat if not needed. It's the liver that decides what...

    Type 1 in children

Hi. I know of no reason why an HBA1C test can't be used with children as it's a non-invasive test apart from taking blood. A fasting test is of little use as a diagnostic but the HBA1C is very reliable. I'm afraid your child is T1 - sorry.

Type 2 Diarrhea since going to two metformin a day in july

Ask the GP to swap you over to Metformin SR (Slow Release) as it's much kinder
