Coffee and Insulin Spikes in the morning.

Thank you @jabalka for the warm wishes. I am not in any way offended, but simply pointing out that none of us can use our personal experiences as absolutes. I am more offended by being instructed as to how I should read or interpret posts. I always read a complete post and digest it before...

Coffee and Insulin Spikes in the morning.

@jabalka Having been Type 1 from 1959 - 2013, my BG management was never impacted by caffeine, and even now I drink a lot and my blood chemistry is exemplary (checked every 3 months) in spite of not being allowed to exercise significantly. It's fine to say "in my experience", but generalising is...

How do I stop fearing this disease?

Hi @AdamMo95 I just wanted to try and reassure you. Hypos can be terrifying and are certainly a curse. Between 1959 and 2013 I must have had at least 100. Some were so bad that I had total memory failure temporarily. The media doesn't help by publishing headlines like "Mother's life saved by...

    Feel incredibly guilty

In my case I had cellulitis many times caused by extremely poor kidney function. Although this was directly caused by diabetes, I agree that people can suffer from poor kidney function for other reasons.

    Feel incredibly guilty

You certainly shouldn't feel guilty @Spine Wars 2023 as cellulitis is a serious condition and, as you state, needs dealing with quickly. I hope things have improved for you.

    Kidney function

Hi @Jo123 I completely agree with @AndBreathe about this. I think it might help you to look at this link...

    Laser Treatment

Hi @peterb999 I'm sorry to read your news. Whilst I cannot guarantee that your experience will match mine, I feel I should tell you of exactly these fears back in 1979, after 20 years of Type1. I had blurred vision on many occasions before 1979, always caused by high glucose levels (unmeasurable...

Need to vent - *&@# GP surgery messing me about

Just a suggestion @debs248 regarding difficulty obtaining blood. You might find it helps to make sure your hands are warm and that you have had water to drink beforehand. I found that if I stood up and applied pressure as in the picture it helped. Also using the side of the tip rather than the...

    Share Your Progress!

Thank you for the links @Eric8080 , they are particularly interesting to me. Twenty-sixyears ago I was put on Pravastatin and put up with muscle ache for years. I was put on Simvastatin in 2011. All was well at first. On the morning of Good Friday I finished playing for a church service and...

    Blood sugar staying high

The irony is that in my close-knit family locally, which is 5 people, only my granddaughter and I have not had Covid. The other 3 have had it at least 3 times! An immunologist likened my immune system to the front two rows of a Rugby scrum. "Your first row has been knocked out and your second...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

I went to the Farne Islands last in 2018. I was pleased to be able to get this on an ordinary camera:

    The good old days, weren't.

Yes I did, and realised that it wasn't worth the digestive assault or the sickly taste. A Type1 who is a friend of mine had a father who would demolish 2 bars of Wander chocolate in one session with no ill effects!

I guess Coca-Cola bought them out?

    Does that look familiar?!!

    The good old days, weren't.

They were rock hard metallic Tasting "shaped "fruit gums". I think they were called Skels? I had forgotten Orbit!

    The good old days, weren't.

1 Cal and TaB both appeared in 1963. Thank God Schweppe's Slimline Tonic appeared in1965. I felt really big, aged seven, drinking tonic water with a slice of lemon in a half-pint glass:hilarious:. I still drink it now. I think most people would inject theselves, even with "road drills" if they...

    Kidney disease or kidney damage?

Hi @Rleady1357 Just to give you some positivity. I first started passing protein in urine in 1973. I have no idea what the gfr result would have been - I was 15 and nobody mentioned the term. In those days tight control was very difficult since blood testing kits and even more progressive...

    Blood sugar staying high

It is a sobering thought! I have seen enormous changes since the days when I would boil a glass syringe in a Victorian lidded saucepan and then still exist to write this now. I have had many amusing conversations in the transplant clinic including "Do you realise that between us we have 4...
