Blood and needle phobia making life difficult!

Hi Tony. My parents used to inject me until I was 8. After that I was shamed by the local hospital staff to do it myself. Needles were larger in length and diameter at the time. Even today I cannot bear to look when anything invades my skin. Yet I injected myself for 46 years. I would suggest...

Burning sensation in my calf: is this the beginning of a new complication?

If they don't, I would suggest driving to A&E and letting them know. Diabetes always worked as a talisman for me when dealing with awkward hospital secretaries! I last did this in March last year.

Burning sensation in my calf: is this the beginning of a new complication?

Try not to think the worst. I had 20 years of very bad control from 1959-1979. I had a total of 7 laser treatments between 1979 and 1983 in both eyes. I first had reported protein in urine in 1973. Even though I eventually had a kidney/pancreas transplant in 2013, I still have great visual...

Burning sensation in my calf: is this the beginning of a new complication?

Is your left calf noticeably redder than the right @RobertJ ? I would certainly agree with having it looked at ASAP. I have had similar, but it wasn't directly connected to diabetes.

    Keto and high cholesterol

I wouldn't like to judge either way regarding statins. I was put on Pravastatin in the 90s and suffered muscular pain. I was eventually put on Simvastatin, which was fine until I was exposed to bright sunshine. In 2011 I had a severe all-body rash and a dermatologist diagnosed an allergic...

Type 1 Having surgery if you have diabetes (T1)

Although pancreas transplants are not offered lightly, I was 53 when put on the waiting list for a kidney transplant. They decided to offer me a pancreas in addition. To say I was surprised and stunned is an understatement. I hope you have a fortunate gear-change in the near future. Good luck!

Type 1 Having surgery if you have diabetes (T1)

I'm sorry to hear of your plight @Novelist2024 . Just for the record I was anaesthetised in 1979 after 20 years of Type1 and again in 2013, when I had a pancreas'kidney transplant. They put in a controlled insulin and glucose drip having stopped insulin injections and food. I survived, complete...

    Water makes my sugar drop...

I have just read this link, which doesn't give me a definite answer to your question. But it does make me wonder whether adding a couple of segments of an orange, or any fruit you enjoy, might counteract the sudden drop in BG? https://www.diabetes.co.uk/food/water-and-diabetes.html

    Immune system

Are your blood sugar levels generally good @mack76 ? I used to find that elevated levels made me more susceptible to colds etc and with worse symptoms.

    Cream instead of Milk

Thank goodness. You have more than enough already. My daughter is Coeliac also! An immunologist pointed out to me that patients in our position are strengthening the gene pool as far as immune response is concerned. Maybe it shouldn't be THAT powerful! :hilarious:

    Cream instead of Milk

Although I and other members of my existing family were tested for a genetic predisposition to diabetes, which proved negative, my family on both sides had auto-immune conditions: Maternal grandmother had rheumatoid arthritis, my brother had asthma, my sister has rheumatoid arthritis, and I got...

    Metformin

Ah, I took the sentence "the first person to start measuring blood glucose" literally. I have a copy of my hospital diagnosis notes, dated 31st July 1959, which state Blood sugar: 920mgs.%. [which equates to 50mmol/L.]

Ketotic Hypoglycaemia but high c peptide

Sorry, I meant to say welcome to the forum and feel free to ask questions.

Ketotic Hypoglycaemia but high c peptide

Personally I would contact the metabolic team and, armed with this exact message (of which obviously they know the details) , ask them whether it is sensible to exist for the next 4 months with ketones. It literally means your son is getting his main energy from body fat. I would also ask them...

It’s been a week of hell

I'm so sorry to hear this @Soph895 . Now you have at last seen the right doctor, I hope things improve considerably. That's a huge amount to take on board all at once. I wish you well.

Do you mean his own blood glucose or any blood glucose?

How being a diabetic changes: 62 years with type 1.

I used to boil my syringe up in what I guess was an aluminium Victorian lidded milk saucepan, about as wide as a breakfast bowl. It belonged to my great-grandmother apparently. Sadly I boiled it dry, melting a hole in the bottom and finding a cracked glowing Everett corpse. I still have the lid...

This will bring back memories: Iwas Type 1 from 1959-2013. Yes modern technology is amazing!

Greetings. Advice needed about blurry vision.

I was spoilt. The most influential ophthalmologist in my life was concerned with all aspects connected with diabetes and eyes.
