Prescribed Metformin but wondering I can do this on diet alone

You could try this zero carb imitation rice from Holland & Barratt: One pack gives 2 reasonable portions. No cooking needed. Can be stored for years. Just rinse thoroughly to get rid of the strong smell from the fluid it is stored in. I use about a pack a day, alternating savoury and sweet...

    Help with my new diagnosis

According to the WHO a morning fasting bg of 5.6 is indicative of pre-diabetes. Would you like to give more details of your diet? As I know to my cost, a "healthy" diet is not necessarily healthy for everyone. I have changed from my preferred "Mediterranean" low fat diet to a low carb one to...

I really need any advice or help

@Morgan78 You might find this video helpful: For anyone outside the US puzzled by Dr Bernstein's numbers, blood glucose in the US is expressed in mgd/dl. To translate these to the UKmmol/L, divide by 18. Thus 100mg/dl = 5.55mmol/L and 83 (which Dr B considers normal) = 4.6mmol/L

    Absolutely it could.

I really need any advice or help

That is considered normal in the UK. In the US the Pre-diabetic category starts at 38.8 mmol/L. My latest A1c was the same as yours, 39. I follow Dr Bernstein in thinking lower blood glucose than the current UK and US targets is highly desirable, but even with a very low carb diet I have not...

    SD Codefree blood glucose meter

If you ring them they may well send you a code for a free new Navii meter, providing you buy at least 2 packs of strips at the same time as you order it. They say it is to encourage people already using the Codefree to switch. However I don't think they check whether you already have a Codefree...

    SD Codefree blood glucose meter

Complain to the sellers, Home Health. The first thing they will ask you is to do a test on the meter. After that, IMO they will likely send you some replacement strips. Or you could ask them to send you a free Navii meter with some strips for that. (They have been giving the new Navii meter...

Please tell me taking Metformin gets better...

I agree with @DCUKMod, it seems to be safest to start on the lowest possible dose. In addition, are you taking the pills with meals? That should help. And have you got the slow release form? These are usually considered easier to tolerate. The branded Glucophage may be easier on the stomach than...

    Easy replacements for carbs

You're right, cutting down carbs does complicate life, especially for eating on the fly. Some people go for the burger without the bun. Some like to wrap iceberg lettuce round their protein instead of bread. Not exactly comfort food, though! Some people bake or buy lower carb bread. If you...

I find the Diabetes Strong site inspiring. Christel who runs it is a T1 who trains with weights and looks fabulous. Lots of articles about every aspect of living with T1 as an active person: https://diabetesstrong.com/category/excercise/ I'm sure you can find answers to your questions there.

    LCHF Diet and Cholesterol

SO frustrating for you! Personally, I don't mind too much changing my diet but I would much prefer to see some good results. I'm just hoping my relationship with cholesterol won't be as unrewarding as with bg, where a vlc diet has not lowered my A1c as much as I'd like.
