What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

@Pipp, I am superstressed at present and not well at all. The Forum has been a refuge, but I can't give the time and energy to respond to @Jaylee's challenges. It's all too much.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

@Jaylee, I don't understand this at all. How are you?

    Low-carb diets & dyslipoproteinemia

I think this article might attract more attention if people were aware of its conclusions: "Conclusions: A low-carbohydrate diet, high in saturated fat, improved insulin-resistant dyslipoproteinemia and lipoprotein(a), without adverse effect on LDL cholesterol. Carbohydrate restriction might...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

@shelley262, this is the one I have chosen, partly because you get 365 small pills in one bottle, so no need to faff around ordering more for a whole year.

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

@RosemaryJackson, well done indeed, you are doing so much for your health, and so well researched. Correction: I wrote K3 when it's K2 (with K2 : 7 supposedly the best). You can read about it here...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

@PenguinMum, not at all sorry, on the contrary this is all intensely fascinating to me, and other people's experiences help me too. Eg I used to have the problem you mention of bgs rising unless I ate, but that seems to have gone away. What next?

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

@RosemaryJackson Sounds great! Assuming the Greek yoghurt is not the 0% fat sort, you are consuming fat alongside the blueberries, mushrooms and other veg, so getting the full benefit of all the goodies in them. You are also getting protein in all 3 meals, which you likely realise as well as I...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

@RosemaryJackson, this is nothing to do with bg or diabetes, but it is recommended for everyone to add a little fat to any carbs that may contain vitamins and minerals, eg salad or fruit, to aid absorption of the phyto-nutrients.

    Glucometer inaccuracy

@winglets, testing 2 hours post prandial is a useful starting point, but there is no guarantee that one's highest p-p bg will occur exactly then. Especially if the meal was large, fatty or full of protein, or if you personally have a tendency to slow digestion. There is even a digestive problem...

Long Covid. A support thread for those who take a while to recover from Covid-19

@Kyambala I am nearly 80. I haven't contracted covid, but I certainly suffer from "a lack of energy and stamina" like you. These days at 80 we may well have another 20 years left, so imo we should do our best to enjoy them. Of course you have the wonderful advantage of me in having your wife to...

Long Covid. A support thread for those who take a while to recover from Covid-19

@zand Yes, I've seen this too. Jenny Ruhl mentions research showing that people who HAVE BEEN on a LC diet and then fall off it do badly. She hypothesises that this is because, having overcome their fear of fat, when they start to add in many more carbs to their diet without diminishing the fat...

Long Covid. A support thread for those who take a while to recover from Covid-19

@zand I'd have thought the problem with a low carb vegan diet is not keeping the fat low, but limiting the carbs. All the beans, lentils, peas, soya contain low fat and reasonable protein but all contain carbs. This is the reason I have, sadly, abandoned my vegetarianish diet.

Long Covid. A support thread for those who take a while to recover from Covid-19

@Vegan Bear (LOVE your pseudo !!!) Could you nudge your vegetable intake towards the lower carb ones? See Diet Dr: "Vegetables with less than 5 grams of net carbs may be eaten relatively freely. If you’re on a moderate low-carb diet (20-50 grams of net carbs per day), you can probably eat all...

Thinking about Low Carb & T2

@coby Indeed! I still have packets and packets of sugar-free Rennies from BEFORE tucked away in a drawer just in case. Did you know that many different flavours of Renny are available on prescription, but NOT the sugar-free! And I don't believe it is because the NHS thinks artificial sweeteners...

New diabetic nurse appointment this Tuesday

Still, I daresay you were feeling quite stressed when you took those readings, knowing you were going to be "judged" on them? I don't think there is great urgency to start bg lowering meds. I would take my time, research possible side effects, ask around. PS How mingey of them not to lend out bp...

Thinking about Low Carb & T2

I used to have big problems with my digestion, leading to my taking stomach acid inhibitors. They never seemed to help much. What has helped enormously is starting to eat very low carb. Before, I was eating a very "healthy" Mediterranean diet, with lots and lots of fruit. Nowadays I do miss the...

New diabetic nurse appointment this Tuesday

This bp reading is worthless, as you were stressed (to put it mildly) by the consultation. To ask you to start a bp lowering med on the basis of that test is insanity! The white coat effect in raising bp readings is well known and acknowledged in main stream medical literature. For a more...
