    Empagliflozin

My nephrologist originally suggested Invokana, but my endocrinologist preferred Jardiance, as apparently it has less side-effects.

    Empagliflozin

Ditto - I also have not lost any weight due to Jardiance - I am also using insulin that seems to counteract weight loss. However, a friend of mine has lost weight on Jardiance - problem is he is already as thin as a pencil - he is not on insulin. I do know though that it is working because my...

How many cups of coffee do you have per day?

Apparently there is some substance in coffee that is bad for one if one has chronic kidney disease (CKD). I don't think it applies when one has normal kidney function.

How many cups of coffee do you have per day?

In North America, we refer to the % as the fat % of milk or cream. Thus 0% milk 1% milk 2% milk 3.25% milk 10% cream 18% cream and 35% cream

How many cups of coffee do you have per day?

Too many, according to my kidney doctor. Actually, I have got to take his disapproval of this seriously. I just cannot drink black coffee, so I take it with 35% cream - too many calories!

    Potato milk!

I'll stick with cow's milk, thank you!

    Dawn phenomenon

I no longer get any dawn effect, but when I did, I would eat a small snack with a low glycemic index just before going to bed.

    Kidney beans

What the internet says, is really irrelevant - do not believe a word what it says! However, what is relevant and important is how do kidney beans affect YOUR blood sugar levels. Thus testing! I do not have a problem eating legumes (black/white/red kidney/chickpeas/lentils, etc). In moderation...

The most disgusting coconut flour disaster

I make an English muffin type with coconut flour : Mix 10g of avocado oil, 12 g of coconut flour, 60 g of egg white and 3g of baking powder in a 5 inch ramekin. Microwave on high for 2 minutes. Take out of microwave, cut in half (it will be quite hot!). Toast twice in toaster oven. It will be...

Type 1 Can insulin before a fasting blood test lead to high Hba1c ?

Why on earth would an insulin injection give one a hyperglycemic incident??? Au contraire. it might be a hypo! Also, a single insulin injection has NO impact on hba1c, but it might impact one's BG reading. When I go for bloodwork, and my BG is somewhat high, I do cheat by giving me an insulin...

    Painful Libre site

Ouch, just looking at the bruise feels painful. I am on my 67th sensor now, and have never experienced any bleeding, but then whenever I go for bloodwork, I get the pin cushion treatment as they look for a vein

    Libreview app acting strangely

The sensor itself may be the problem.

    almond flour

Coconut flour is another alternative. One uses less of it than almond flour, and it is also significantly less expensive.

    Type 2 Breakfast - Shakes

There is no reason why you cannot have a shake in the morning for breakfast. The real question is what is it doing to your blood sugar levels - how many carbohydrates are in the shake????

    Bacon smoked or Unsmoked

Smoked or unsmoked no difference. If honey or maple syrup was used in the curing process that would make a difference.

    Male chronic UTIS and exhaustion

@diggernorman Male UTI tend to be relatively rare - the lifetime risk for UTI among men is about a quarter of what it is for women. The main contributing risk factors for males are diabetes (high levels of sugar in urine), prostate issues and not having been circumcised. The fact that your...

    Tresiba 100

Tresiba is actually very forgiving as to when one takes it. I used to take it before bedtime, as I tended to forget to take it at nightime. Also, I once I injected the wrong insulin before bedtime (fast acting rather than the basal insulin). Now, I take it in the morning before breakfast.

Is anyone on oral meds and insulin?

I am not negatively impacted by Jardiance, but some of my friends have had nasty side-effects. My urine has a higher sugar content, as i notice sometimes after a few days a black ring start to develop in the toilet bowl. Bacteria feeding on the sugar in my urine. Also, I am using the Libre...
