    Retinopathy Laser Photocoagulation

If you found the laser uncomfortable it may be that it was quite intense. Could take longer than a few days in that case. Don't worry -it will pass. Its never too late to start taking care of yourself and have a posiive impact on your eye health. You could say I have had some experience...

Type 1 & Type 2 and this Forum

As has been said previously there is not a clear division between the different types of diabetes. There are many types and many posters have been misdiagosed in the past and had a wider experience than is apparent and others have unusual forms of diabetes which have feaures of different...

    Livlife Bread

As Tesco are keen to help diabetics perhaps selling Livlife bread would be a good thing for them to do? Has anyone spotted any in Tesco? I have a feeling this has been mentioned before but search did not come up wih anything.

    remember the flu shot, everybody!

Its quite simple really. sometimes the vaccine causes mild side effecs. Compared to the effects of flu these are negligible. Some unforunates -but a very small minority suffer more pronounced symptoms. Unless you have reason to think that the vaccine is actually dangerous for you I...

The press are bashing us again!

I have to agree wih Mongoose. Unless I was reading the wrong page there was no mention of diabetes. In fact it was good to see that the writer did not assume that all the overweight people were diabetics. I dont think it does us any good at all to defend obesity in the general population...

Need a bit of advice re gliclazide

Re: Need a bit of advice re gliclizide I was old by a Diabetes consultant that all meds should be taken in the morning. Purely for !patient convenience' Perhaps your doctor is of the same mind? I have always done the same thing as desidiabulum does and have never had a problem wih my HCP's...

    Aspie meltdown DURING laser surgery!

I did mean a phobia not squeamishness. I just mentioned the anaesthetic so that others reading would know it wasn't painful. If you have a phobis -naturally reassurances of any kind won't help. You would just have to have sedation.

    Aspie meltdown DURING laser surgery!

Lots of people have a phobia about ther eyes. I myself hate having my eyes tested which in my situatio is not good. if you ever have to have a lens against your eye it is usual to anaesthesise the eye with drops first so you dont feel anything.

    Type 2 diabetic

It never ceases to amaze me that people like Daibell can give so much good advice so succinctly on here and yet many of those whose job it is andwho have been trained in diabetes management are so utterly clueless. They tend to make a mystery of it all because they dont understand it themselves...

Six natural remedies for lowering blood pressure fast

The cayennne pepper advice for hypertension reminded me of a wonderful book I used to have about herbalism. Much of the information in it has now neen absorbed into the mainstream but I remember the author advising anyone who thought they were having a heart attack to sip a glass of water to...

    Retinopathy help or hope?

Hi Geraldine. thats good news about the laser working and your hospital being on the ball. They differ a great deal. Never does any harm to let them know you are aware of treatments. Avastin is far easier than steroid injections which are given for maculopathy and macular oedema. The...

    Why should I care?

Hi As ever I totally agree wih Daibell. Gps have been told to tighten up on cholesterol figures. It used to be possible to discuss matters with them but they have now been ordered to make reaching the targets for cholesterol a priority and even when patients start to suffer side effects...

Retinopathy - not a fast track to blindness

Its not always a sign of poor control . Sometimes its just the result of diabetes over a number of years. In my case it was because of a drug bringing my levels down too quickly. If your levels are good it just gives you more chance of success wih your treatments. I have to keep mine stable...

    Terminal and Scared

Hi Kman. as others have said you are far from being a weak, silly pathetic, person. If yoou can think of others at this time then you are an unselfish and courageous person. I always think its a huge mistake to pretend that complications are rare and that it is a good thing to avoid...

Retinopathy - not a fast track to blindness

Hi connie , I totally agree with merrocco and have had even more sessions of laser etc. Try to think of it as a good and positive thing. Before screeniing you would probably not have have known there was a possible problem. At this stage you don't know for sure that there is When you go to...

Hi Geraldine, There are two types of injection .There is the steroid injection {usually triamcolone} and the other is called Avastin. The steroid will bring down inflammation in the eye and so is ofen used in cases of macular oedema but can also be effective in"drying up " the fluid which...
