    Metformin is making me miserable

Feeling like that is awful, I hope it'll improve very shortly. Don't hesitate to post again with any questions or just to rant, we tend to be good listeners here. And please let us know how you are after you've spoken to your doctor!

    Numb toes

My shower doesn't have that feature, and the thread title is 'numb toes'. I thought it worth to add in a warning to not trust numb toes to feel if the water is too hot.

    Numb toes

Be very careful with hot water on numb parts of your feet. You won't feel the heat but it can still cause serious burns and infections.

Microwavable meals to bring to work, give me all your ideas!

Not sure how long it keeps, but at least 5 days unless the yoghurt goes off before that time. I'm sure it'll work very well with plant based yoghurt too, enjoy!

"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Minced meat, onion, mushrooms, a little leek, all fried in frying pan before stuffing the peppers. Added spring onions at the end. I zapped the peppers in the microwave until they started to get just a little soft before I filled them to make sure they'd be soft after reheating, I like my...

Microwavable meals to bring to work, give me all your ideas!

It's zaziki, which tastes good with almost anything. I make a very simple one: A big pot of 10% fat Greek yoghurt, scoop a bit out to make room for the cucumber. A whole grated cucumber (takes up much less room than you'd expect), a couple of garlic cloves, grated, pinch of salt, splash of olive...

Microwavable meals to bring to work, give me all your ideas!

My aunt came up with the idea of stuffed bell peppers, so I've had them with zaziki today and yesterday on the bridge. Worked very well reheated in the microwave!

    Soup

Are you looking very low carb (because in the low carb forum) or very low calorie (because VLC usually is an abbreviation of low calorie)? Either way, a stock cube works very well for a warm, salty, soupy kick, I like the vegetarian herbs variety best for a mug. I also sometimes buy a pack of...

"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

I only ever fry mushrooms on high heat in butter to be honest, I've never considered other possibilities. Can you tell me a bit more? I don't think I've even seen okra in my life, but I love buying unknown foods and googling what to do with it after! Pre-work swim at 8 am, very festive and...

Introduce Yourself: Answer Some Personal Questions

Hi @Polarbearsrock and husband, Welcome to the forum. You'll likely get more answers if you start a new thread with your questions, this is mainly a place where people introduce themselves. And in answer to your question: does he like bacon and eggs without the bread? Very filling, and very...

    Dawn Phenomenon

Doesn't make a difference for me. Foot on the floor effect has my blood glucose rising upon getting out of bed with or without coffee, so I take insulin for it before getting out of bed.

The package certainly looks as if they're aiming for an international market, even though the product is Dutch, so who knows! @JoKalsbeek , in case you're interested, I found these at Aldi.

New T1 needs help with highs and lows please

If you need to snack regularly to prevent/treat lows, the basal part of your insulin is too high, hence the nurse telling you to reduce your evening dose. This is exactly the problem of a mixed insulin, if you reduce your dose because your basal is too high, you're also reducing your mealtime...

How to keep insulin cool when travelling

How long are you planning to travel? Insulin is fine for at least a month at room temperature, so if your travels are shorter a Frio will do just fine. If you're away for 4 days you'll take enough insulin for twice as long, and at least one extra pen in case something happens to the in use pen...

    Distressing appointment with DN

Sounds like she's a horrible nurse, I'm so sorry your appointment went this bad. We have plenty of compassion and kindness on the forum, thankfully, I hope this helps a little. Well done on standing up for yourself! As for the high iron levels, there may be a relation beteen this and your...

Tomorrow! But the brand sounds very Dutch so don't get your hopes up. :( I hear echoes of the very hungry caterpillar, which we all love so I think it doesn't count. ;) You'll be a butterfly tomorrow, and if not, tomorrow is a fine day for more sensible choices! Your day sounds very good...

Goodbye and thank you, Dr. Richard Bernstein

While I'm not a 'religious' follower of his approach, lots of his ideas have found their way in managing my own diabetes. I can't thank him in person for everything he did for people with all types of diabetes. So here's a very small obituary for a great man: Thank you!

Today should have been day 3 of onion soup but I didn't feel like it. Besides, I discovered a new type of lc cracker yesterday (1,2 grams a piece) and I did feel like eating those. :) So I fed the fishes under my bridge and had two crackers with lots of toppings, and a piece of chicory with...

Blood reading go high after exercise !

Definitely watching! There's a fine line between being bold and careful. If you decide on experimenting, by all means err on the careful side. This is something you do often, doesn't matter if it takes 10 or 20 games to get it right.
