Best tenner I've spent this year.

Bought this a little while ago, some really good recipes. Had some friends to dinner last week and cooked the butter chicken with hazelnut and raspberry roulade for dessert. Have previously cooked Kuwaiti lamb with Middle Eastern cauliflower rice. All went down very well!

    Newly Diagnosed Type 2

Looks like you’re already taking the right steps. Omelette for breakfast is good, salad for lunch (just be careful the dressing isn’t too sugary). Riced cauliflower is a great alternative to rice. Red wine is lower carb than beer. I expect there will be lots on here soon to give you more...

    Carbs

I was diabetic and ignorant for 9 years before I found out that carbs were sugar. Not one doctor or nurse ever mentioned it. Like you didn’t eat much sweet stuff but plenty of carbs. Good luck, Jan

    Totally paranoid

Welcome to the club! It’s not as bad as you fear. JoKalsbeek has summed it all up extremely well. Good luck and best wishes for your future. Jan

    Eating out.

Pizza restaurants are probably the worst for type 2. I regularly eat at at our local Italian or Indian where there is plenty I can eat. I suppose your 6 year old grandchild chose their favourite, but no good for you. Well done for sticking with a boring salad!

    Finding sticking to lchf hard

A support group sounds like a good idea. I don’t think there is one near me, will have a look again. If anyone knows of one in SE Essex please let me know. My gp and dn sound similar to yours. Eg . When I told the nurse over 3 years ago that I was looking into low carb all she said was don’t...

    Finding sticking to lchf hard

Thank you Brunneria I suppose I’ve got used to cooking food I can’t eat to a certain extent. I also cook for grandchildren regularly, plus mum and rest of my large family. I just need to have a moan occasionally as it does make it so much more difficult for me to keep on the straight and narrow...

    Finding sticking to lchf hard

He definitely seems to have a self destruct nature. I do sometimes think he’s aiming for another heart attack, As he watched his mother deteriorate over 15 years with Alzheimer’s, ending up in nappies and without the power of speech before she finally died. A steak dinner is something we both...

    Finding sticking to lchf hard

If I don’t cook food he likes he would live on takeaways. Never cooked in his life and as he’s in his late 60s I don’t think he’ll change his habits now. He doesn’t eat any green veg, just potatoes, rice or pasta with his meat or pies. I’ve never been overweight so don’t follow low carb to loose...

    Finding sticking to lchf hard

I’m sure a lower carb diet would be better for my husband, but he refuses, e.g. if I make a curry I cook normal rice for him and cauliflower rice for me; meat pie and mash for him, pork strips and broccoli for me. He does his own breakfast and lunch, both very high carb. He also refuses to stop...

    Finding sticking to lchf hard

I have been following a lchf way of eating for 3 years now, results ok but find it so difficult with my OH and family. I get very little support if any. It took me years of being diabetic to persuade my OH not to buy me chocolates, - “You deserve the occasional treat!” Can’t really blame him...

    Alcohol & metformin

Hello Jim I would be more worried about the affects of taking that much Metformin than the alcohol. That seems an awfully high dose to start on. Metformin often does cause diarrhoea and that could well spoil your evening.

    New diabetic

Also if you are taking gliclazide be careful you don’t go hypo with low carb. You will be surprised what an impact carbs have on your sugar levels. Good luck.

Not only doctors giving duff information

I have tried various things but just feel my liver is trying to be more helpful than my pancreas! It’s only what I expected from the dn, never had any help from her or doctors.

Not only doctors giving duff information

At my last review with dn I mentioned that I still get high morning readings. Her response was “Well don’t test then”.
