Please help I was just diagnosed with Type 2

I do not consider 140 at two hours to be good. 140 is the highest I EVER allow my blood sugar to get. 140 is at the top of the normal rangeat the post-meal peak (not the trough or near trough at 2 hours). Just an FYI - Metformin does not act instantaneously. It takes around 2 weeks to make...

What do you miss most from being diabetic

What I miss: Homemade whole grain bread and time. I've had about 3 slices of fresh warm bread from my bread machine since October 2, spread over 4-5 sittings (less than a slice at a time, to keep the carbs low enough so I can safely eat it). The time I invest in food preparation is time I...

    Reaction to vodka

Generally, the liver has a one-track mind, and turns off the background blood glucose production factory while it is tending to the alcohol you just drank. For me that's a good thing - it allows me to eat out more comfortably when I don't have access to accurate carb information. If I think...

    Sugar levels and stress!

Definitely within the realm of what stress can do to my BG. I changed my cancer care team, because being furious at them regularly caused that kind of spike for me.

New T1- another illness to cope with.

Thanks! It is important to find and do the things that make life worth the challenges that accompany living. I had planned an August dive trip - my first in 4 years - as a reward for managing weight and diabetes. It was one of the first two things cancelled. I don't have time during the...

New T1- another illness to cope with.

Delightful card! I have trouble figuring out how to describe my relationship to cancer, as well. Had? I think the doctors would say describe it that way. They talk about keeping it from recurring. Remission? Maybe - but I think of remission more in terms of turning off the expression of...

New T1- another illness to cope with.

My arts n crafts therapy that got me through radiation: I added a piece every treatment day during radiation. My purple radiation marks (transferred via traced photograph) are in the scrollwork middle-left (4 + signs forming the bottom corners of the first row of rectangular frames) and the...

New T1- another illness to cope with.

Similar diagnoses but flipped. I was diagnosed with T2 diabetes (and Hashimoto's thyroiditis) last October, managed to wrestle it under control, and then was diagnosed with Breast cancer in April. I just got done wtih radiation (August 24). For us both: You'll get there. One step at a time.

Bacon and recovery from diabetes 2 ?

The information in the article is too generic - so I can't tell whether other variables ere controlled for. My guess is that it is the high fat content of the processed foods mentioned - in combination with high carb (which they may not have tracked) that increases the risk.

    Type 2 Carbs or calories

I agree that is how LCHF works for some people to lose weight without counting calories - because, ultimately, losing weight comes about because you eat fewer calories than your body needs. If you eat less because you aren't hungry, that will create the calorie deficit needed to lose weight...

    Type 2 Carbs or calories

I count both - you don't have to choose. I was diagnosed on October 2. Since three days after diagnosis, my blood glucose has been under control (the carbs) - and since then I have also lost 70 lbs (the calories). (But if what you're trying to control is blood glucose - the carbs are what...

    A1c increase puzzling

Stress is a significant plays a significant role in my daily ups and downs (I fired my first cancer team because they made me furious 2-3 times a week, and it was not making my BG happy). Personally, I find Metform relatively innocuous (as long as you don't have GI side effects). I wouldn't...

    Discouraged

I have not ever, on this thread, this forum, or anywhere else, made the general statement general statement "the Newcastle Diet regime {offers} 100% remission/reversal." What I accurately stated is 100% remission in the first Newcastle study. As someone who is fairly widely respected on this...

    Discouraged

I embedded the links a few posts ago - maybe it's the updated server, but scrolling back, they aren't as obvious as most embedded links. Here they are again: The first Newcastle study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3168743/ The second Newcastle study...

    Discouraged

As to the first two paragraphs - yup. I'm juggling some of the same questions (and the same response to "just" the low carb diet I ate from October through May). The way many people are practicing the Newcastle diet, it is a fad. I've encountered way too many people who are on it purely to...

    Discouraged

That is not correct. As I noted: the FIRST study had a 100% remission rate, not the 87%, or 50%, you attributed to it based on the SECOND study. Remission rate was measured by the return of the damaged insulin response pattern to normal and a non-diabetic response on an OGTT. It was not...

    Discouraged

That's the second study, not the first. There were no long duration members in the first study - everyone in the first study (by the definition Taylor uses) was short duration, and achieved remission. That is exactly what Taylor did, in the post-intervention followups (included in both of the...

    Discouraged

My concern is remission v. control. The food-related BG levels tell me that I have good control - the non-food related BG levels tell me that I'm not there yet as to remission. The dawn phenomenon is a reality for everyone - it just bumps people with diabetes up higher because the bump comes...

    Discouraged

It is the first Newcastle study - but I got the duration wrong (it was up to 4 years post-diagnosis, not 1). Both Newcastle studies collected substantially more data than A1c - the first more thorough than the second. In the first, addition to the markers that merely indicate good control (A1c...

    Type 2 Pending operation

My BG is well under control, so it was not a big issue in my recent cancer surgery. But it can be. Make sure you tell your surgeon. I ended up visiting multple surgeons. One wanted a recent A1c. Another just asked for recent readings. My primary care doctor said that if you can keep your...
