Low carb is the way to go says my diabetes consultant

If you accept that the levels will creep up then they will creep up, and treats will bring that day nearer each and every time, to believe otherwise is the denial that we all know is so pernicious and dangerous. That's how the cookie crumbles", as they say. Good luck Irw60 and promise you'll...

Low carb is the way to go says my diabetes consultant

Brilliant! chefbronia. you've done so well. I've got my first Hba1c since moving to low carb coming up in 3 weeks time. I've lost 7kg since the last one and am eating so much better, so I'm hoping for a good result - but I'm not going to have any treats if it is. I've actually found that...

Low carb is the way to go says my diabetes consultant

Irw60. At the time I wasn't low carbing I was low GI-ing. And my Hba1c had dropped to non-diabetic levels and I had had a normal OGGT, hence the doc said I was not diabetic - the fool! I told myself that I could have the odd treat, a biscuit here, a small piece of cake there, 2nd helping of...

Is it true that you can get it by walking on the cracks in the pavement?

Low carb is the way to go says my diabetes consultant

Don't ever think you are clear of diabetes - you're not, you've just got good control. I was once told (by a locum GP no less) that I had not got diabetes just because my Hba1c had improved. Guess what? I relaxed and it came back to bite me in the bum!

    Rant!!!

As a child, I also ate wine-gums and now I too have diabetes  Perhaps there is more to this than meets the eye...

    Rant!!!

Are anyone's posts getting deleted? I'm astonished that my innocuous posts on another thread offended the moderator but many of those above don't. As I said in the post I thought I had made earlier (now deleted?). I'm all for free speech - keep it up!

Low carb is the way to go says my diabetes consultant

It was he that used the term 'problems' not I, which is why I was a bit speechless. :?

Low carb is the way to go says my diabetes consultant

I was recently discussing my low-carb (60g per day) diet with a friend who is an NHS dietician. He was obviously unimpressed muttering about problems of Ketosis and the need for carbs in ones diet. I really didn't know what to say. I could hardly challenge his professional knowledge, but he...

    chinese takeaway

That ain't necessarily so! As I said epigenic research has shown heritable traits can be gained and passed on in a single generation. The interesting point is that if an environmental change causes a change in behaviour (such as diet) then epigenics is now telling us that that heritable trait...

    chinese takeaway

Not quite true. Recent epigenetic research has shown that heritable gene changes can occur within a single generation from things such as dietary changes and even physical and mental activity! Very interesting stuff.

    Low carb diets restrictive? Myth!

Some people are put off trying low carb diets because they feel that they are restrictive. However, since starting to low carb a few months ago, I have found the opposite to be true. In the past, even though I have always been a bit of a foodie, eating just about everything going, my diet...

how long before i give up on metformin

Elaine, I got T2 after years of being a skinny cyclist doing up to 300miles a week. My T2 came on when I cut my cycling back (family&work) and put a bit (not a lot) of weight on. People said I was still slim, just not as skinny as I was. From the research I've done about the connection...

    Statins, and why take 'em?

Since refusing to take statins I have seen a number of doctors at the surgery. Most try to persuade me back on. One recommended Benecol drink - the lowest sugar version is a 1.2g hit :-( but it takes the cholesterol level down by upto 1 percent. An Asian doctor recommended garlic (which has...

    Statins, and why take 'em?

Yup! that's exactly how mine was. It came on gradually and as I do a lot of exercise I didn't realise it wasn't just a reaction to my latest hills run or weights session. However when the pain started to last for days and my exercise got less and less but the pain stayed I realised there must...

how long before i give up on metformin

I didn't realise Metformin was given to pre-diabetics. I thought pre-diabetics were only given bad advice. Carliannie, stick with the low-carb diet. A lot of people find it works well.

    advice whilst awaiting full diagnosis

If you haven't read it , read this viewtopic.php?f=20&t=17088 I couldn't agree more with the low-carb advice. Count those carbs, Weetabix might not be such a good idea after all - it all depends on the individual. However, if you are overweight, the best thing you can do is to lose some and...
