To say that modern life is stressful and thus giving everyone diabetes is defeatist and also promotes the lesser proven cause (stress) over the well proven cause (porkiness). However, both of these are within our gift to change. Life can be stressful but we can take control. I used to hate...

Don't involve yourself in the blame game.

Well then she was a very naughty nurse. Misinformation such as that is exactly why diabetes progresses as patients dont to understand the causes and thus fail to embark on the best course of action to slow or halt the progression of their condition. FWIW I was told the same but went away and...

Was I Pre-Diabetic before I was Dignosed as Type 2

My experience too Thommothebear. When I was told that I was pre-diabetic I was told that my diet (lowish GI but definitely carb heavy) was 'model' and my exercise levels 'fantastic', even though I was a little 'porky' but didn't realise it, and I was told that I would probably be pre-diabetic...

    smoking

When I gave up I had the added incentive of a pact - whoever sinned had to buy the other a slap up meal at the restaurant of their choice. I sinned twice and consequently couldn't afford to buy fags as a result. It did the trick. I also bought a bike and started cycling and, once i'd stopped...

no he didn't - as a nation, we do less exercise (the lazy bit) and consume more calories (the porkers bit) than we used to - hence we are turning into a nation of lazy porkers. Most overweight people I know ignore all dietary and exercise advice. That doesn't mean all overweigh people are...

Hornplayer, I'm glad you're listening to the message and working to that size 0. Because for most of us that is exactly the best course of action to managing our condition. More people need to hear that and act on it.

Clearly some people on this Forum are interested in taking personal action to improve their condition, just look at the topic on reversing or curing T2 diabetes viewtopic.php?f=1&t=40231 However, even on that positive thread there were posters attempting to divert the discussion away from...

Individuals will hear the message that they 'want' to hear. That is abundantly clear from the responses on this forum. Some listen to what is said, understand the message and recognise the need to take action as a nation. Others don't listen take things personally and look for excuses...

Here we go again - denial - its someone else's fault. There have always been large people but not as many or as large as now. We have got to the point where vast numbers of people are consuming too many calories and tipping over the edge into diabetes, which incidentally has always been with...

Either do something about it (which I presume you do or you wouldn't be on here) or pay for your own healthcare, because I don't want to pay for zillions of lazy porkers who ignore advice and don't take responsibility for their own bodies. Of course not all diabetics are in that camp, so don't...

The professor has been interviewed about his views of why we are where we are. He states the truth so don't knock him for it. As a nation we are fatter, that is a fact. And we continue to get fatter as the messages about obesity and diabetes are cranked up. The problem is that the public at...

Interesting article on low carb and insulin resistance...

Re: Interesting article on low carb and insulin resistance.. Hmm.... The author seems to be a self publicist with no medical background and does not reference his work. I would treat his advice with a good deal of caution.

High Intensity Training (HIT) - Dr Michael Mosley (Horizon)

Re: High Intensity Training (HIT) - Dr Michael Mosley (Horiz Yorkman, excellent film - didn't they have a nice day for it. Not quite Wiggins territory but a good indication of what a good fat-busting bout of exercise looks like. However, even years of this sort of training regime doesn't...

    Porage

Isn't unsweetened wholewheat museli basically uncooked porridge with a bit of fruit & nuts added? So if I didn't eat the fruit bits then that should be just as good for my BG - maybe?

    Porage

I too have a porridge habit. However, I have taken to mixing my 15g of jumbo rolled oats half-and-half with 15g oatmeal bran, 1/2water 1/2 semiskim milk, and cinnamon (as this is good for controlling BGs). Its much lower on the carbs but it is unfortunately the texture of wallpaper paste...

Re: High Intensity Training (HIT) - Dr Michael Mosley (Horiz HIT will not get you fit, Michael Moseley stated that in his program, the period of exercise is just too short to have any cardio-vascular or muscular benefit. What it does do is improve your insulin resistance by shocking the system...
