    Delayed Bubbles?!

Hi Carbsrok, so the bubbles in the cartridge/tubing don't prevent the insulin flowing through? I thought that was why I had to prime them out? I think what you are saying makes perfect sense (get rid of the bubbles just before they get to the end of the tube!) so do you mean if the bubbles are...

    Air Travel to the USA

of course, if you have your settings set up to deliver different basal at different times, of course it makes a difference....you can tell I'm new, I've got the same basal rate all day at the moment! and that may not change I suppose, depends really.....would be easier if it didn't by all...

    Air Travel to the USA

Hi Sugar2, I may be being really thick here but surely, with a pump, as it's continuous, you don't really have to do anything? apart from regular BG tests of course, does the pump mind what time of day it is?! isn't that the beauty of it? if you eat, you bolus, if you don't, you have your basal...

    Delayed Bubbles?!

Hi ya, I have the combo pump and I am 2 weeks in too! I have just had to get rid of bubbles too, spooky  you have to stop the pump and re-prime to get rid of the bubbles, like you are starting again, disconnect the pump from the canula, set the prime again and wait, holding the pump so...

Advantages of sibling being at same school

Hi Sophia, I think it would undoubtedly be a benefit to Jess that have big bro around, my sister was 3 years ahead of me and even though things were different back then and I didn't test at school, she was the first person that the teachers would call upon should I need help (much to her...

    job depends on ketone levels

Hi Neil, can you ask your nurse what she meant by High? if you have a high level of ketones then she should have referred you to your GP or local hospital for further analysis/assistance. Perhaps she was testing for glucose? I guess it depends on the test strips she was using (I test my blood...

    Fasting.....

Hi, I guess it depends on what your targets are? 8-9 would be a bit high for me, but did you set some target levels with your DN? Can you call him/her to double check? as for continuing the fast, I don't see why not but I am not particularly experienced (or competent!) at fasting. I'm sure...

    Anniversary...

ahh, One Cal! Those were the days ;-) don't recall Fresco however, perhaps I am just a touch too young for that one Noblehead and Kewgirl?!   anyway, perhaps I will celebrate my 1/4 century, crack open some bubbly and toast my parents for putting up with me and my...

    I hate the phrase......

maybe that's why they add the sugar Nigel, to cover up the taste of 'bad' coffee?!

    I hate the phrase......

exactly! she wasn't counting for the sugar, she was guessing how much insulin to take and getting it all wrong  in other words, she didn't have a clue :P my point was she was eating raw sugar which was something I hadn't done for over 20 years!

    Anniversary...

blimey Nigel, just read your older posts, can't believe how lucky I was to have been diagnosed just 3 or 4 years after you! the thought of non-disposable needles/syringes makes me shudder......I do remember the archaic BG meters where you had to drop the blood and wait and then wipe it off...

    asked for a pump

Yes, it is where I live, but I have read on this forum that it's not a requirement for everyone (although how you would cope with a pump without carb counting is beyond me!)

    Anniversary...

I didn't even have the chance to hate the Autolet, I was given the stabbers and had to stab myself, free hand stylie! :P makes me chuckle now, remembering the nurses stabbing me with slight of hand and telling me off when I said 'owwwww!!'

    I hate the phrase......

nowt as strange as folk Nige! My sugar lady had good BG numbers as she had been taught to 'allow' for the sugar pre-DAFNE but still, she was walking a fine line in my opinion! :P she also suffered from crashing lows post meal which was explained by her over compensating for the sugar, never...

    What lead to your diagnosis?

OMG, I am horrified by this! I hope you will make a formal complaint? Not informing a patient of a diagnosis is unacceptable!! what if you had been type 1 and gone into DKA?! or what if it had been cancer?! heaven forbid................glad you have it all sorted now but really, what a shambles...

    I hate the phrase......

what about 'oh, you can't have this cake then can you?' or similar!! I usually have an extra big slice when someone says that  I know, I know, I'm lucky, type 1, can count the carbs but still annoying when someone makes the assumption that all diabetics MUST avoid all sugar! I...

    I'm new and scared!

I have the calorie counter and the carb counter Gem books and the Calorie one suits me best as it lists approx portion size for the carbs (1 medium apple, 90g peas, 1 slice bread, etc) so if you are out and about and don't have your digital scales in your handbag you can make an educated guess...
