    BG and Jetlag

I have this problem and find that exercise seems to sort it for me.

    Hot Chocolate

I use Bournville cocoa - 2 heaped teaspoons (I like it strong) Xylitol (healthy sweetener with no after taste) about a teaspoon but I don't like sweet and unsweetened soya milk -Holland and Barratts is literally soya beans and water with no yukky thickeners, maltodextrin etc . I make is frothy...

    Test strip anomalies

I remember those urine sticks - its all my dad had to test with!!

    Test strip anomalies

How interesting! Thanks for that link. I was also correct with the 20% accuracy. Well I suppose they are not a complete waste of time but it does explain why some people can't manage their insulin if they are relying on the accuracy of these test strips. I wonder if some brands are better than...

    Test strip anomalies

Yes I was told over the phone and also sent a letter explaining it with the control solutions. All sounds strange to me as well- like a cop out!!

    Test strip anomalies

Personally I think the batch I have now are a whole 1.0 out!!! We'll see when I get the next batch!! Abbott tell me that a 10% or was it 20% (can't remember) variance is acceptable.

    Test strip anomalies

When I phoned Abbott - they yet again sent me a pack of control liquids and the test strips are always within the boundaries , but the boundaries are very large!!!

    Test strip anomalies

Because I always now test one of the old and one of the new batch in the same drop of blood. I really don't think my blood sugar can be so consistently low (<4.7) with what I am eating :) I will be getting a new batch of strips next week again. If it were that low I could be eating more...

    Test strip anomalies

Does anyone else find that from batch to batch the test strips vary a lot. My current batch from Freestyle lite are reading <4.5 , my last batch was <6 yet both batches passed the control solution tests. I find it very frustrating!!

any 'sweets' etc without maltitol etc?

Chocolate is also poisonous to dogs , so are you going to give that a miss too? I eat 85%+ chocolate and its fine for me.

any 'sweets' etc without maltitol etc?

I agree re stevia!! I use Xylitol (Holland and Barratts and some supermarlets) and it has no after taste. Good for your teeth as well!

any 'sweets' etc without maltitol etc?

The question is do these "no sugar" carb actually spike as I am not sure that they all do. e.g. Xylitol which is my sweetener of preference according to the packet has a low GI value. Am not sure about the new Stevia products in the shops- not sure if I trust how natural they are!! Now Maltitol...

    2 hour readings

Sounds like I am lucky as I can get away with fruit and homemade muesli with yoghurt, cinnamon and soya milk in the morning. I have less carbs as the day goes on. None of you mention exercise. If after breakfast you go for a FAST 15 mins walk that should bring down your numbers. Also as some...

    Test strip anomalies

If you mean me - I am controlling on a strict low carb/low GI diet + loads of exercise but no meds. I am therefore not entitled to any strips!!!

    Test strip anomalies

Well I can tell you that freestyle lite need the tiniest amount of blood for a test. I think it is 0.3ml.

    Test strip anomalies

Does anyone else find that new batches of rest strips give completely different readings? I use FreeStyle lite and when I phone and moan about it and do their tests with the control vials they always say that a 10% difference is acceptable! e.g September I was getting fasting reading of 5.2...

    is diabetes reversible

Re: is diabetes reversable Eating sensibly for the rest of your life is the key to keeping these excellent fasting numbers. I am sure you would agree that you have not actually reversed but like me have it under good control so the odd teaspoon taste of sticky toffee pudding would be able to...

    is diabetes reversible

Re: is diabetes reversable Grazer - I'm with you. I would be very upset if my fasting number got as high as 6. I aim for <5.5. However I know that a couple of hobnobs or a cold/flu would make them a lot highter

    Pre-diabetes & 'mild' T2 diabetes?

I was found to be pre diabetic about 5 or 6 years ago. I was not over weight, as mine is inherited and because of this have never had much in the way of sugar but was unaware of Carbs in general. I did loads of research and settled down to a low Carb/low GI diet and am at the gym more than I...
