    Monitors and test strips

Further update! Had my first clinic appointment today. The nurse said a monitor is "an essential management tool" and she "knows that the GP would prefer me not to have one but you're my patient now not his!" Love that woman! She's put everything on repeat prescription too.

    Random and possibly dumb question

Re: Random and possibly dumb queestion I had a fasting test done and it came out at 11 (whatever that means) and I'd had a Polo and then the next one about a month later (again with Polo) was 8.5. I have no idea what any of that means!!! I've got my first clinic appointment tomorrow so I'll...

    Random and possibly dumb question

Hi all! I know this may sound like a dumb question but... when you have a fasting blood test done at say 915am what time should you stop eating the day before? And would munching on a Polo the morning of the test affect it in any way? :?

I self tested when I had gestational diabetes so the thought of it doesn't bother me, it's the cost. I've been told I need metformin. I'm assuming that's free or even that may be a case of making them last as long as possible.

Could I add a knob of butter and have mashed lentils instead of mashed potato? Would that work?

The general consensus is that you should test roughly twice for every meal. So that's six strips a day 7 days a week. 42 strips a week at say £7 that's £28 a month on strips. I just don't have money to waste like that sadly. The doctors want you to self manage so they don't have to see you so...

Unfortunately I'll never know what foods do to my BS as my doctor won't supply a monitor or strips and they're too expensive to buy. I'll try that dhal recipe tonight! Thanks!

Hi all! As I have to cut down on carbs, I've been trying alternative stuff... I had a baked sweet potato last night and it was delicious! Now I can't have sweet potato every night as it's expensive so I thought I'd give red lentils a go. Does anyone have any ideas on using them as an everyday...

    Advice please!!

Hi all! I've now modified this slightly... I now have porridge for breakfast, fruit mid morning, lunch then more fruit mid afternoon and then dinner. I feel better and so far have had no "crashes" halfway through the day! So far so good!

    Monitors and test strips

Update on this one... I had a phone consultation with my GP just to get some more info and I asked about Test Monitors and strips. He said I won't need them. Then he went on to say that it was actually because they cost to much and they're not prepared to pay! The truth will always come out!!

    Advice please!!

I don't get the chance to eat much during the day as I work at a desk with 2 ten minute tea breaks and half an hour for lunch so I'm just trying to make sure I have something through the day.

    "Crashing out"

Hi, Random question... But is it normal to feel like your "crashing out". I can feel myself getting sleepier and sleepier and I keep zoning out. I haven't got my first clinic appointment til next week so I don't know if this is normal! :***:
