    Bruising more often?

Sorry to hear about your increased bruising. I've been trialling Omnican needles which I was sneakily forced to change to by my GP. I have noticed a significant increase in bruising and a prickly sensation near my injection sites, something I hadn't experienced before.

I think that's it in a nutshell especially how random snacking just isn't worth the hassle of mucking up a tight control routine and the when dilemma!

We're all in the same boat, but T1 is not T2!

Perhaps we should all be branded. I'm sure that's what lots of people would like to do to us when I think of some of the remarks I have had directed towards me. After all why not identify the very people who are helping to bankrupt the NHS through no fault of our own, (that's all types by the...

We're all in the same boat, but T1 is not T2!

You are considered even more of an oddity if you are diagnosed Type 1 at 55 as I was. I would go as far as to say I was treated like an alien when I was admitted to hospital with DKA, which was what clinched me being Type 1 together with the GAD test. Most of the nurses I came into contact with...

    Novorapid and omnican needles

Hi everyone. Went to collect my repeat prescription of usual freestyle test strips and lancets yesterday and was surprised to see an alteration to the test strips, lancets and insulin pen needles for my future prescriptions. When I queried this with the pharmacy clerk at the practice I was told...

Should I believe him or carry on worrying?

Thank you all for those replies. It's amazing how just having contact and reading your thoughts, experiences and opinions makes me feel better and I can manage this. 1 dose of nova rapid from a new pen after lunch my reading before dinner tonight was 5.1 so fingers crossed things are moving in...

Should I believe him or carry on worrying?

Thanks Brunneria I don't think I have a bug brewing but one never knows. Stress does usually raise my levels but not usually into double figures. I wasn't convinced by what he said about the metformin. I threw away my nova rapid pen and started a new one so I'll see if that helps. I feel it's a...

Should I believe him or carry on worrying?

Hi everyone. Rang my doctor today for some advice. My diabetes is usually very well controlled. I'm Type 1 diagnosed by way of DKA at 55 years old 4 and a bit years ago. Meter readings in the mid 5s last HbA1c 48. This past week my readings have been creeping up and have been in the 9s and today...

    30 years in.....

Thanks Matty O and welcome I found your post really inspirational and encouraging. I feel like I've had Type 1 for 55 and half years instead of the 4 and a half years of my 59 years of life. Thanks again :)

Does this happen to all Type 1's...?

I have had most of the above comments made to me during the past 4 years since being diagnosed Type 1 at age 55 years. One comment that always sticks in my mind was from a work colleague. I returned to work after my diagnosis by way of a long hospital stay with ketoacidosis. Friends and other...

Would you take a cure if it became available? Curious?

Yes most definitely been Type 1 for 4 years diagnosed at 55. I feel it took my life and freedom away even though I'm told I manage the condition very well, but I do understand not having to test and inject and monitor everything you eat would seem strange at first.
