    Hypos

I've thought about this too It's probably due to receptors in the brain. Sometimes they act swiftly and raise the alarm. Other times they think everything is ok and the reaction is delayed

Are you open about diabetes or embarrassed about it?

Thanks for your answers everyone. Yesterday I did a blood check in front of my work colleuges who promptly asked if I was diabetic. I said I sure am!

Are you open about diabetes or embarrassed about it?

I still have some trouble telling people that I have diabetes. It's weird because I have many other conditions too which I don't mind mentioning. But I find the word diabetes to be a dirty word. I'm not sure why. It just sounds unhealthy and weak So how open are you about it?

    Type 1 diabetes cure

Human beings are not as smart as we think they are Most so called "break throughs" in medicine happen completely by chance or accident What we need is a big slice of luck. But I won't be placing any bets anytime soon

    "Of which sugars"

Thanks for the explanations and yes I am type 1 on insulin and I've updated my profile to make this clear But I'm on a low carb diet (during the day) and then eat whatever I like (during the evening) with the fast-acting pen This seems to work very well for me

    "Of which sugars"

I'm still not totally sure I understand this For example a pot noodle is 19g carbs and only 1.5g of which sugars.. so could pot noodle be considered good or bad in terms of blood sugar? I generally aim for foods that are less than 1g of "which sugars" Should I be concentrating on the total...

No insulin and VERY LOW BLOOD SUGAR

This phenomenon is known anecdotally and it happened to me in the years before my T1 diagnosis. I would get hypos all the time, despite not being on insulin (yet) The pancreas is somehow impaired and the body knows this. So it tries to over-compensate As time goes on your ability to do this...

Do you just keep injecting fast-acting until levels are right?

Not really. I'm new to the fast-acting stuff. I'm kinda just "winging it" atm

Do you just keep injecting fast-acting until levels are right?

Injected 2 units before dinner. An hour later my levels were 9 so I injected an extra unit to bring it down (not sure if you're supposed to do this) but now another hour later and my levels are 10.5 Do I inject more? Is that a thing?

Type 1 & dealing with hair loss

If you are talking about male pattern baldness that has nothing to do with stress or diabetes. It is caused by your androgen genetics. The gene is strong in my family but I cheated and got a hair transplant that cost 4k in Turkey. I now have a full head of hair Hey I might as well give myself...

    Any recommended supplements?

I was ordering some zinc for a boost in testosterone/libido and saw that type 1's happen to be deficient in zinc Got me thinking. What else are we deficient in and what other supplements could help with general quality of life? Thanks

A thread for those with or suspecting Covid-19 - no doom mongering allowed

2 weeks ago I had high fever, cold chills and terrible respiratory pain - albeit no cough And this was in Brighton ,where the disease was limited to at that point in time They wouldn't test me because I hadn't been abroad in the past 3 months But there's a test coming to see if you've ever...

    Corona virus

People started off by saying it's just a relation to the common cold, which they find comforting. But that's exactly why it's so dangerous Everyone gets the common cold. Now imagine it killing you

    Prevention/cure

This might be controversial and maybe I'll feel different in 49 years but as a headstrong person I am not even anxious for a cure It is what it is!!

    Family history question

In fact what am I talking about. I have every death certificate for my direct ascendants and none of them mention diabetes or any health complications that would suggest so

    Family history question

Already done years ago. Interestingly it said my chances for autoimmune disorders were 99%. I laughed at the time, I'm not laughing now ;) Your poor boyfriend! I'm a genealogist so I do have a bit of information on their health and how they died. Also insulin wasn't invented until 1922. So...

    New diagnosis LADA

I have psoriasis too. Insulin is a piece of cake (not that we should eat that) but you barely feel it. It' won't take long for you to get into a routine and live pretty much normal

    New diagnosis LADA

I asked exactly the same question when I first arrived here a month ago Yes, get on insulin, it can prolong you and you will feel better. I was also under stress, troubled gaining weight and there is a link to other autoimmune disorders too. Whatever the cause, we're here now and you're in good...

    Family history question

My GREAT uncle is the only member of my entire family tree who was possibly type 1 and I know my Ancestry going back 300 years I say "possibly". He was insulin dependent, lost both his legs, had glaucoma and haemophilia. Can this also happen with type 2? Or is pretty much likely a type 1? I've...
