You should be happy with it. It's a lovely scene.

North 57.95°. The Gulf Stream does come our way, but the Atlantic wind seems to negate the effect. The mainland just a little south east from us (North 57.76° - 193 km away), is very warm and gardens there grow some wonderfully exotic plants.

You'd be very welcome should you ever decide to have your summer break up in these northern climes.

Temperature here is 14C with 97% humidity. At least the wind has dropped to about 6mph, so it doesn't feel too bad outside. Inside the temperature is 17C - that's because I'm too mean to turn the thermostat up. Rain is forecast for later. Sea temperature of 18C is not warm enough for me to...

Breakfast: avocado salad with some low carb crackers. 3 cups of coffee so far. 2nd meal: vegetable broth - one of the soups I finally got around to making.

They definitely have a very strong minty scent, but can't smell the grapefruit myself. Maybe the flies can though. Thanks for that information Gennepher. I'll try the other ideas as well (put grapefruit peels around the doors and windows, see if I can get grapefruit and mint oil to make a...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Having said that we can't have much of a garden, we do have a lot of shrubs along the front of the house, right alongside the entrance ramp, which house, on still days, hundreds of flies. So, after advice from Gennepher I am putting lots of mint plants along the side of the ramp to try to deter...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

11.9 at 04.50 today. Another high one with no apparent reason. Wet and windy today. Not the best of days, but then we are in the Hebrides which, when the weather is good (not all that often) is wonderful, but most of the time the weather isn't good. When we first came to see the place, in...

Hope that sorts itself out soon. Give the wrist a rest for a while - no point overworking it.

Windy here too. Bright and occasional sun but the wind makes it quite chilly. Trees are taking a bit of a bettering again. We have to keep an eye on the trees near the house because our telephone line is overhead and comes through between 2 trees. Every so often Neil has to go out and hack...

I should be as sensible as you but I keep on getting Neil to buy ingredients and then have to use them, whether I feel like it or not. On the other hand, if I didn't, I wouldn't have the ingredients if I wanted to use them. Hobson's Choice or Someone unmentionable's Law. The smoked haddock...

Breakfast: more smoked haddock pate on lc crispbread. Coffee x 2. Just back from getting my legs rebandaged and recovering with another coffee. 2nd meal will be the rest of the barbecue style chicken and salad. The hip was just too bad over the last few days (still is) so I didn't make...

12.5 at 04.20 today. I guess I deserved that so I can't complain. Comfort eating at its worst. Just back from the weekly pilgrimage to the Health Centre for the bandaging ritual. The hip is really having a go these last few days which is making things a bit difficult. Today, though, I have...

Breakfast: Smoked haddock pate on low carb crispbread. 2nd meal: will be barbecue style chicken wings with salad. Not promising myself any action on the soup front until I see what happens with today's second lot of painkillers.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Got into my bed last night - around 01.00 - and slept until a bit after 03.00. Managed to get turned over onto my left side and slept again until a bit after 05.00. That's a good night's sleep for me. The hip is still sore, but I can move a bit better today. The "Agnes stool" was a brilliant...

"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Didn't manage to make any soup today. Too much pain made standing up very difficult so spent much of the day in my chair. Mid afternoon I had some yoghurt with a raspberry compote stirred in and later, some defrosted potatoes, roasted in butter. An odd sort of diet, but it was easy and fairly...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Neil has come up with a temporary solution which is much simpler than his complicated suggestion. We have what we have always called "the Agnes stool". Agnes was my MIL and she was only a little over 4ft tall and, as a result, couldn't reach many of the fittings in our house. Tom made this...

Breakfast: Spanish style omelette with smoked haddock. 2nd meal will be either chicken wings (if Neil can get them in the shops today) or beef mince. Hoping to make some soups today - what I call Ayrshire broth (my MIL's unnamed recipe). It's a lamb base with lots of veg. Tomato and lentil...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

12.9 at 03.20 today. Another bad night, most of it in the chair in the kitchen. I've asked Neil if he can cut maybe 3 inches off the legs of my bed, to make it easier to get into it. The chair is comfortable, but a whole night spent in it leaves lots of aches and pains. Neil reckons it would...

3.6 at 03.00 today. Difficult night because I couldn't actually get onto my bed on my right side. Had to just edge in on my left side. Usually, I get onto the bed on my right side and sleep that way for a couple of hours, then have to get up and then back into bed on my left, for another hour...
