"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

I'm fond of coloured and/ or textured glass, maybe because my mum encouraged me to collect sea glass as a child, who knows. Most of it went in the loft when we redecorated downstairs and is still up there. The only thing of any monetary value is a pair of "snowball" tealight holders that I bought very cheaply in a charity shop.

Today's menu should feature:

Yesterday's unfinished dinner of salmon salad, brie and grapes. Fell asleep again.

Half price king prawns and smoked salmon

Ham and cheese omelette hopefully with more salad.

Yes I loved them as soon as I saw them. It was only many years later someone recognised them and said they were collectable. Never had them valued as it's less than £100 and I still like them. Need to make sure my daughter knows so she can sell them once I'm gone though.
 
I was offered my sisters China, that may have been my Mum's before that. But there's so much of it, including tureens, it takes up 3 kitchen cupboards, and I don't like the pattern, so I declined.
However I still get nostalgic at the old Woolies pattern that was my childhood every day one .Who remembers Hedgerow?
 
Foodwise today
B: 2 scrambled eggs with 1 slice corned beef
Half an ice lolly (too sweet)
L: corned beef and gherkins
D: bbq. Lamb steak and 2 90% sausages. Then neighbours came round for drinks. Lots of wine, and cake. Then more cake.

I still have my mother's Hedgerow dishes - medium plates, cream jug, sugar bowl, milk jug and gravy boat. Still have slightly better quality Woolies bone china with an odd brown modernist pattern (Royal Vale) - also my mother's - just cups, saucers, cream jug and sugar bowl. They must be 60+ years old now. Woolies used to make some pretty good china and other household goods. Most of the china I use comes from charity shops though.

We had Alfred Meakin's Sunflower for everyday as I was growing up. Unfortunately as soon as my parents got a dishwasher the pattern disappeared.

When I moved to Southampton there was a very old-fashioned hardware shop nearby which had a stack of the side plates, which we snapped up. Only one left now, rather chipped, onto which we empty out the teapot.

We bought a set of those some years ago. Sadly they didn't last until we got a dishwasher. Very clumsy family.

Sunflowers were my husband's favourite flower so our house has lots of sunflower items/colours. Sadly, none of the dishes.
 
Just had breakfast of RyVita and Tartex.
Been busy making a chocolate cake to take out with me this afternoon. Obviously I shan't be eating that so will make something I can eat to go along with me. Chickpea pasta with a spinach and ricotta sauce. The spinach is frozen, so it's currently defrosting.
 
Yesterday had a simple bbq with hubby and son (lamb steaks and 90% sausages, salad)
Then the neighbours all came in for drinks. Impromptu rehearsal for a main celebration we are having in August when we will mark a 90th an 80th and a 70th (among others).

I drank wine which lead me to eat cake..

Today back to normal routine
Skipped breakfast before exercise class followed by coffee (tea for me).
L: pate, carrot, cucumber, roasted veg. Seed crackers, cream cheese
D: lamb steak, broccoli and green beans with avocado sauce (avocado blitzed with yoghurt and a bit of dressing). Coffee ice cream.

Hubbys out tonight and I've just poured myself a second coffee rum!

Oh my, I'm so sorry!
I started a long post early saturday evening, when I'd sent Mark for a half hour nap in the spare room after a great day, from which he emerged three hours later, just before I finished the post.

Not the love of my life but we have plans for a weekend spent at his place in the near future. :)

Longer update tomorrow (including food!), I have to pick up the oldest daughter of my neighbour at 7:15 tomorrow morning to give her a ride to the ferry before work, and it's 11:15 pm already...
 
Breakfast: Spanish style omelette with smoked haddock.

2nd meal will be either chicken wings (if Neil can get them in the shops today) or beef mince.

Hoping to make some soups today - what I call Ayrshire broth (my MIL's unnamed recipe). It's a lamb base with lots of veg. Tomato and lentil as well and, if I can get around to it, another attempt at fish chowder which I will try not to burn. This is all if the energy doesn't run out. These are all to go into the freezer for future use.
 
Couldn't get to sleep last night. Think there was too much caffeine in the 2 x coffee rum.

10:00 breakfast. 1 peach with milled seeds and 10% greek yoghurt
12:30 4 seed crackers with pate. Carrot sticks. 2 sqs hm lc coffee cakes. 1 sausage
Took 32 people from elderly club to local venue for afternoon tea. Had nothing except strawberries and cream and a cup mint tea.

Later at a meeting, a few crisps and houmous. Refused the offer of wine.

D: mince beef on green beans.

Hour's stroll followed by 2 white wines in a pub
 
Didn't manage to make any soup today. Too much pain made standing up very difficult so spent much of the day in my chair.

Mid afternoon I had some yoghurt with a raspberry compote stirred in and later, some defrosted potatoes, roasted in butter. An odd sort of diet, but it was easy and fairly quick and didn't put BG up too much.

Tomorrow's another day and, painful hip willing, I'll do a bit better on the diet front.
 
Hours pilates.

B: 2 cold 90% pork sausages. 6 walnut halves. Handful raspberries. Cwc

Then prediabetes course. I've missed 2 sessions. This one was on food labels. I didn't learn anything new, except how little other people know.
At one point I was hopeful as someone asked how many eggs she could eat in a week as she has raised cholesterol. At first the tutor said cholesterol from food doesn't affect blood cholesterol as that's made in the liver (yay!), but then she said "so only eat 1 egg a day". Seems some messages are getting through to mainstream, but not all, yet!
They're still pushing wholegrain, beans and lentils 25% of the plate and meat only twice a week.

Then car started flashing warning lights and going sluggish so left it a local garage. Hopefully fixable and not too expensive as we've just booked a holiday for 2026 and also had to pay final amounts for the 2025 one!

L: 4 seed crackers with cream cheese and olives. A hm lc chocolate ice lolly I found lurking in the freezer.

D: omelette with green pepper and cheese, half was brie, half red Leicester. 6 oven chips, a sliced tomato. A glass red wine

Then out to a talk from a harpist. Thought it would be too high brow for me but was a good speaker, lovely varied music and very interesting

Just reading this back I'm amazed at such a varied day, but I felt calm and laid back all through. Maybe it was the pilates!
 
Breakfast: more smoked haddock pate on lc crispbread. Coffee x 2.

Just back from getting my legs rebandaged and recovering with another coffee.

2nd meal will be the rest of the barbecue style chicken and salad.

The hip was just too bad over the last few days (still is) so I didn't make soup, but I must, before the ingredients go off. That's today's task.
