    Sugar free Jelly

It's an american import, mostly found online (unless you have a big tesco with an american section) but jell-o make a sugar free cherry jelly. It's quite nice. It sets without putting it in the fridge, which I found odd!

    Stress & Type 2

Turvell.. I KNOW for a fact that stress is linked to Type 2. I too have an office job with the usual office politics, and my blood sugar is all over the place during the day. If it's a bad day I can get to the teens quite easily. Like you, I can't give it up due to the financial...

Whose Having What For Dinner? Answers Below :)

I had minced beef cooked in the pan with chopped up celery and tomato in it. Had broccoli by the side. Looked lovely and colorful, but since going on to the Atkins Induction Phase on Saturday Metformin has started it's dirty tricks again and I feel pukey... so I couldn't eat much of it...

Best Insurance Co for Type 1 pump user to USA?

Topdog are quite for insuring health conditions. I used them to go to the USA a few months ago and it was very reasonable. I'm only type 2 though. However, my next door neighbour is in her 70's, has all kinds of very serious health problems, and is a groupie to an international band. She...

    How to combat initial thirst?.?

I never had the excessive thirst, and my sugars were waaaay up there. But I remember when I was in my early 20's , I just didn't drink very much at all and could go all day without having anything at all. Then in my mid-20's I changed jobs and somehow taking 2litres of water to work every day...

    Statins

This is my view too. I'll dig my heels in, get my claws out, and put up whatever fight I have to... because we're a long time dead, so I want to get my money's worth out of life first!

    SUGAR IN MY TEA?

I hear you on the extra taste buds thing. Hermesetas are the only sweetener that I use (and that will no doubt spark some aspartame furore somewhere... but I likes what I likes!).

    Low Carb Confused

This was one of the best, most informative threads I have seen on the forum. I was really learning something... and then page 6 happened. Shame.

    SUGAR IN MY TEA?

I've had two cups of tea in my entire life... hate the stuff with a passion. However, if it was me and if I really didn't want to stop drinking a beverage just the way I like it, I'd knock the digestives on the head first (maybe replace them with morning coffee or rich tea? Are they less...

When to resume exercise after illness?

I am STILL on the bloody sidelines! The chest infection turned out to be a wonderful side effect of Doxazosin (a bp med). They've taken me off it, put me on beta blockers, and it's getting better... but we're now into the realms of nearly 2 weeks without physical activity. The Yoga DVD's...

    Sleeping too much?

As Andy said, Ketoacidosis is rare and only a concern with Type 2 if the blood sugar is wildly out of control. Also, some people just need a lot more sleep, especially when ill, regardless of diabetic status. I exist comfortably on 5 hours a night, and even when my blood sugar was higher, I...

    Trying to Ignore Calories

You're quite right. Lunch turned out to be very light - chicken with lots of green leaf salad. But I was so full from breakfast that I only weighed out 3/4 of the chicken. The days carbs came in at 21g, and I wasn't at any point hungry.

What is the definition of fat?

Carol, I have one of that model too. If he sees fat in any meat that he's about to eat, that will be it for him, meal over before it's begun. But present him a bacon sandwich complete with crisped up bacon fat, and he'll devour it. Man-logic is sometimes totally random.

    Statins

I've said it before, the subject of Statins blows my mind... I have to come off them this coming year as we want to start a family. But the more I read the more I question whether I should come off them right away. Oh well, I guess it's a question for the DSN next time I see her.

wonders in through the back door....!

Hi Bex, Welcome to the forum. As far as diabetes goes, I would have been up the proverbial creek without a paddle if I hadn't found this forum back in July. There's a lot of information, and many many people who are willing to answer even the most basic questions. It really has been a...

    Trying to Ignore Calories

One of the hardest things for me in this new lifestyle is to ignore completely how many calories I'm eating. I've spent my entire adult life looking at calorie content, trying to stay under 1500-ish calories per day, and suddenly I've had to throw all of that out of the window. Even though, in...

    Incorrect Measures

After reading your post last night, I was fiddling in the kitchen so I measured my measuring spoons. Hmmmmph! my "Tablespoon" is not a tablespoon either... it's just over 10mls (dessert spoon). The teaspoon is about 4ml. The annoying thing is, my measuring spoon set came with a breadmaker...

    Pork and Leek Sausages

I made them on New Years eve. The gannets that I live with devoured them in seconds! Butcher minced the pork for me, and I put a large spring onion in instead of a leek. They were lovely! Made them into big patties the size of a slice of bread, so they could have a proper sandwich.

Lowered my HBA1C in 4 months

Douglas, in your original post you mentioned Home made bean curries ? Do you have a recipe? I'm really getting into curry and spices for the first time in my life, and bean curry sounds lovely.

    Diabetes and diarrhoea

I found Erythromycin to be quite a nasty one where the runs were concerned. The antibiotics not only kill off the bad bacteria causing the infection, but also kill off the good bacteria in the body. It's worth mentioning your symptoms to the Dr, but it's also worth getting some good bacteria...
