We have just enjoyed a lovely roast lamb meal .My husband cuts every miniscule bit of fat off his meat .When I drain the juices off the meat I put it in the freezer to separate the white hard bit that hardens on the top I put in the fridge ,in the morning John will put this on his toast with salt and pepper but this is NOT fat .Also the top of the meat has a layer of something that I crisp up in the oven to be devoured with much relish .This is NOT fat.I have only had John for 50 years but I still dont know what is FAT :arghh:
C:arghh:AROL

From the Oxford Dictionary !
noun
  • 1 [mass noun] a natural oily substance occurring in animal bodies, especially when deposited as a layer under the skin or around certain organs:whales and seals insulate themselves with layers of fat
  • a fatty substance made from animal or plant products, used in cooking:sizzling fat[count noun]:a diet high in animal fats
  • the presence of excess fat in a person or animal:he was a tall man, running to fat

Why do you say that the hard residue left over from the juices is not fat?

Sorry this post was sent very tongue in cheek The reason I didnt call the fat on top of the gravy "fat " is because my husband does not eat "fat

Carol, I have one of that model too. If he sees fat in any meat that he's about to eat, that will be it for him, meal over before it's begun.
But present him a bacon sandwich complete with crisped up bacon fat, and he'll devour it.
Man-logic is sometimes totally random.

Yep John will eat his crispy bacon fat :)I have given up trying to understand men are suposed to be the logical ones!!

Well, I have roasted a turkey this morning (don't ask) and as a low carb snack I have just eaten most of the crispy bits of skin off it. i consider this to be health food!

According to men!!!!!!!!

Well I would not eat a spoonful of lard or drink a mug of coconut oil, and I trim much visible fat off meat before I cook it, but I don't avoid fat in bacon, poultry skin or pork scratchings <pauses momentarily to lick lips>. Theres nothing wrong with fat per se, but great big lumps of it just aren't very appealing, unless its walrus blubber.

How long would you to have cook the walrus blubber to make it into crackling or dripping
