After reading your guidelines, I'm going shopping today... Berries and Greek Yoghurt.

When to resume exercise after illness?

The best laid plans... I intended to have a superfit christmas and counteract the over-indulgence by spending a couple of hours a day doing cardio. I was up to one hour a day on the crosstrainer, and was well into the couch to 5K programme to get running. Then on Christmas day of all days, I...

    Please help - need advice

If you can, keep a record over the next couple of days of your readings before you eat, and 2 hours after. Take this in to your GP. Like Andy, my DSN said that anything over 11 is diabetic, and I didn't need any of the investigations, I was diagnosed on the spot.

    Pork and Leek Sausages

Excellent recipe on two levels - my Mom is wheat intolerant and spends a small fortune on wheat-free sausages. I'm a sausage snob and only like really tasty ones. I am going to have a play with this recipe! I have neither a mincer nor a sausage stuffer, but going to have a go at patties (or...

    Medical Receptionist RANT

I did and to cut a long story short I've now moved to another practice within the same group. Ironically, I have the same GP, the same DSN, I just go to a different building in a more convenient part of town on a different day, and the receptionist seems wonderfully competent!

Anyone use other low carb forums.

I've seen that blog. It seems like a disgruntled banned member. I don't know how people have so much time on their hands to get so worked up and angry!

    Denial?

I've been quite strict with myself since finding out that I have type 2. I have had iron-willpower at times, and have been able to say no to most things. Then Christmas happened and suddenly the house is full of chocolates, cakes, and all the wonderful things that I can't and shouldn't eat...

    travel insurance

I used a company called Top Dog to go to New York on. They offer all different types of cover, and you then pay a "top up" cover for Diabetes. My Aunt used to use them as she was unable to get insurance elsewhere at a reasonable price due to her diabetes-related health conditions.

    new machine accu chek aviva

*Some* type 2's can get them on the NHS, it entirely depends on your GP Practice, your Primary Care Trust, and whatever way the wind is blowing! I got a GlucoRX meter on the NHS and I get 25 strips per month. That amount lasts me about a week, so I use them, and then go back to buying...

    Can I re-use Lancets?

I can't remember the last time I changed mine  Generally try to change it once or twice a week, but I suspect that it could be getting on for two weeks with the current one. I know.. I know.. I'm lax!

    Tattoo

If it's on your bucket list, do it. Something small like a bee or ladybird isn't going to cause much hassle in the way of healing. A tattoo is pretty much like a bad graze, and unless you have issues with your peripheries, shouldn't pose a problem if you follow the advice and guidelines of...

    Confused?!?! Please advise.

I had porridge for the first time in 5 months last week. It was sort of an experiment to see how my body would tolerate it. I couldn't face eggs / bacon, didn't have any of my usual greek yoghurt in, and had no livlife bread. I had one small bowl of scots oats made with skimmed milk, and my...

    new machine accu chek aviva

I have an accuchek aviva. It's a good little machine, but the strips are about £28 a pot from supermarket chemist, or around £15-20 a pot from eBay. I persevered with it for a while, but it has now been relegated in favour of a Codefree monitor from Amazon as the strips are £7 a pot. I like...

    X-Mass Sins

I not only broke the rules, I smashed them. Obliterated. I always knew I was going to. I had pancakes for breakfast (because if you are going to wreck yourself for one day, do it in style), huge christmas lunch with everything, and then I'd made a chocolate roulade log out of the delia...

    christmas cake spike

I had a mad moment the day before christmas eve. I was working, had errands to run at lunchtime, then was going major christmas shopping straight from work. So instead of eating my cooked meal on the evening, I bought fish and chips on the lunchtime. Have to say that I really enjoyed every...

    Relations

I know what it's like to have a partner who isn't the most supportive when it comes to diabetes. My fiancee, bless him, has the sweetest sweet tooth of anyone I've ever met, and throws junk food down his neck like it's going out of fashion. But, I am aware that it's difficult for our...

Trying to Conceive... what should I be concerned about?

I was diagnosed as Type 2 in July. I was immediately put on to Metformin, and now also take Atorvastatin, Amlodopine, and Doxazosin. I've managed to get control of my blood sugar fairly well through a low carb diet, and this year I've lost 4 of the 8 stone that I needed to lose. My fiance...

    Been naughty

I too have been totally naughty, properly for the first time since being diagnosed. One of the major suppliers to our company was coming in today and had already said that they were bringing Pizzas. I made myself a nice healthy lunch, but when I got to work only 4 out of 12 of my department...
