    Put Off by Food

Thanks everyone for all your help. The food issue was brought about by the metformin, and has now mostly passed. Although my appetite has returned, I have to say that I've got used to having a much lesser appetite thanks to having decent blood sugar control.

If you could have ANYTHING to eat right now, what would it b

Re: If you could have ANYTHING to eat right now, what would To be fair, my dogs would probably turn their snooty noses up if I dared to offer them a Fray Bentos! As hideous as they are in reality, I miss Pot Noodles! I miss warm food at lunchtime, and Pot Noodles were just so handy to...

    diabeties and anger

Welcome to the forum. I find that stress causes quite noticable highs with me. I can go from levels of around 5.5 to 15.5 simply through work related stress. If you are also overeating junk, that won't help with your blood sugar balance. I found that not only does eating chocolate give me...

Sudden Weight Gain - water retention?

I will look it up, especially the potassium. Thanks for the tip.

    Music

Re: Music Depending on the mood: If I need to chill out, I like to get lost in 60's and 70's folk. Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, Simon & Garfunkel. For general go-to music it's pretty much all kinds of rock. If I'm having a particularly awful day, my secret indulgence is Pink. No one does...

How long should I wait / endure

Just over 4 months here too... and the side effects disappeared about two weeks ago, except for an occasional dodgy tummy. The worst time for me was from about 6 weeks until 12 weeks in.

    Diuretics

My Dr is from the same mould! He would probably lynch me for trying the herbal medicine, but also threaten to strike me off for wasting his time if I made an appointment to ask the question about taking them lol!

    Diuretics

I'm not going to advise you either way... but due to ongoing water retention issues, I bought some water balance tablets from Superdrug. The prime ingredient is dandelion root, and other herbal bits and pieces. The packet clearly states that people with diabetes shouldn't take it without...

Annual review blood test - dr requested thyroid?!

Yes, thyroid is generally tested because there is a link between diabetes and thyroid problems which make it a little bit more likely that we could have thyroid issues. I would have thought the cholesterol one should be ticked too though!

Sudden Weight Gain - water retention?

I saw my DSN today, and she was very helpful, and also mentioned potassium. Lowering my calories so much and doing lots of exercise has most likely left me a little bit potassium deficient. So I have instructions to release the strings on my strict diet for a couple of days, eat some...

Sudden Weight Gain - water retention?

Just a quick update. I have an appointment with DSN tomorrow so I'm going to mention it to her. I'm now 8lbs heavier today than I was on Friday. I had a cup of peppermint on waking this morning and I took a litre flask of white tea to work with me today (found it on the shelf at home and...

Sudden Weight Gain - water retention?

I'm trying to remember to drink plenty - since getting my blood sugar down I find it so difficult to remember to drink. I'm going to make a concerted effort to ensure I get the 2 litres... even if I have to force it down lol. Did wonder whether not eating enough could be a problem too...

Sudden Weight Gain - water retention?

I've gained 6lbs in three days!! I've been eating low carb, in fact, the last week or so I've reduced it to around 30g carbs a day. I've purposely cut back a bit extra as I wanted to drop a bit more weight before christmas (and before I see the dreaded relatives!). Also, I've been eating...

Type 1 & Type 2 and this Forum

I've just read through all of this... what a can of worms!! As a type 2, my natural reaction is to be a little offended at the suggestion of any answer I give being "irrelevant" to a type 1... and that judgement would be made purely by whatever box I'd ticked. Nevermind that in reality I grew...

    christmas partys

Re: I'm taking Christmas day and boxing day off. I'm not going to overdo it, but I'm not low-carbing my christmas dinner, and neither am I going to forgo a mince pie! I don't drink ordinarily, so I'm getting a bottle of merlot in, in the hope that it may counteract the effect of whatever I...

    employment

I was in a slightly similar situation with my job. My diabetic nurse is part time, and works 8.30-3 three days a week. I work full time 8:00 til 5:30, and there was an element of employer "grumpiness" shall we say, with regards to the first few appointments. I was asked to arrange my...

    Medical Receptionist RANT

Gah! When selecting an appropriate receptionist for the job, do Dr's actually go looking for the least helpful jobsworths around? I had my first H1abc on Friday, along with thyroid, liver, kidneys, and a few other bits and pieces. I had a call from my surgery today, but missed the call on...

    Peppermint Tea

I drink lots of peppermint tea, and I definitely find it helps my digestion. However, if you don't like the taste, then try peppermint capsules instead. They have the same effect but without the need of drinking down a cup of something you hate!

    Christmas...

It still is! I live closer to Merry Hill than Birmingham, and hate the place. This time of year is a complete nightmare there.

    Christmas...

Definitely outside of the Bullring! Whilst I admit to shopping there, I do love the choice that is outside of the main mall. Good to see so many midlanders here!
