    Suggestion for Dawn effect phenomenon

How effective is eating say a small piece of cheese, or a handful of nuts (so something zero or very low carb) the minute you wake up? I know it works for some, but I would be interested to hear for those of you who suffer from rising BGs in the morning if it is actually helps some or most. (If...

T2's - Taking on carbs after exercise?

LOL! It's okay @Baruney, I'm a huge advocate for peer to peer support! I just think it's important to declare that I'm not an expert - particularly with regards to an individual's meds etc and it's important to seek advice from a HCPs (having said that, this forum is useful to determine if your...

T2's - Taking on carbs after exercise?

Hiya, There's no such thing as a stupid question here. I have a reasonable knowledge around diabetes, but I am in no way qualified to offer advice - only your healthcare team can do that. I can make observations though which may help a bit.:) I appreciate that you're reluctant to make a detailed...

How does exercise and what you eat (not carbs) affect blood sugars

Hi there, Congrats firstly on your progress. Okay - you have lots of questions, but unfortunately there is no 'right' answer as such. Have a look at this link that explains some of the basics around exercise: http://www.teambloodglucose.com/TeamBG/Questions_-_How_exercise_help.html In answer...

T2's - Taking on carbs after exercise?

Hi Dave, Perhaps you're getting lower BGs because you've lowered your carb intake - even taking into consideration your change in drug therapy? Or perhaps you're being more active? Without writing everything down - what you eat and what activity you do along with regular BG readings it will be...

    hypos in the night

Hi there @Russ, Do you low carb at all and are you able to do much exercise? Even though Gliclazide will do a good job of keeping your BGs at a more healthy level overnight, it might be worth giving your pancreas a bit of a helping hand to keep it in good working order. Wishing you well. :)

    Advice on exercise and food

Insulin and exercise are never happy bedfellows.:( How about bacon and eggs for breakfast - no need to bolus then at least? :)Eating carb + bolus (even reduced) + exercise straight away is still likely to cause a nasty BG fall rather than the nice level profile you hope for.

T2's - Taking on carbs after exercise?

Hi @Bravo2zero (Dave), Hmmm - certainly under 3 is low, and is surprising if you are no longer on gliclazide. I would be interested to hear other's views on this because they may have personal experience themselves. I guess your low could be put down to a poor test strip reading - did you do...

T2's - Taking on carbs after exercise?

Hi there, Have you considered speaking to your doctor about reducing or even stopping the gliclazide in order that you can continue a low-carb diet? I would imagine that diet and exercise are preferable to a drug that encourages your pancreas to secrete insulin. It might be worth a chat, because...

    Acceptance from my partner.

Just as @noblehead says, frequency of hypo's can be reduced with careful monitoring of BG levels. Even though it's lots to take on board, the sooner you can get your head around carb counting and matching your insulin requirements the better. Hang on in there - it will become easier to manage...
