    Well that was worthwhile!!!! NOT

You are lucky you saw a doctor :D I had a general nurse who gave me nothing except a tiny scrap of paper (the type they put the next appointment on) with the Web address for diabetes uk on. That was it! Lucky for me I stumbled into the forum :)

And there IS a can of cola in the picture. It says cola quite clearly.

The truth about fat. Radio 4

She certainly stumbled over her words. I was following that diet, including loads of high grain cereals and fruit juice. It is possible I would have been diagnosed with diabetes even without that diet, but since I changed and cut out the carbs (as much as is possible) my levels have gone down...

Uncontrolled to controlled in just a few short weeks

You hit the nail on the head there about low expectations. I was told that I could try and diet for 3 months then to come back and get medication on the next visit. As though that was inevitable.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

6.6 this morning... But it has been around 8 or more (I've ditched the evening fruit and yogurt snack and just have the yogurt now!)

Does a LCHF diet raise cholesterol levels?

Thank you all! DeeJay I'm not on statins, I was just over so didn't get that far (and in fact had started to lower my fat intake as a result of that shortly before I was then diagnosed with diabetes - now I'm back to eating fat!) Sanguine, that is very interesting! I will check when I have my...

Sorry if this has been asked before.

Does a LCHF diet raise cholesterol levels?

Do any of you have experience of this? I'm trying the LCHF diet and keeping my blood sugars low, but I have previously had highish cholesterol so I'm worried about that now too!

Why are sugars high in the morning?

I have the same problem, the highest readings I get are in the morning (I'm not on medication yet, just diet) The Dawn Phenomenon makes sense.

    Strange experience of diagnoses

Thank you all again. I'm taking it all on board and will read as much as I can as I change my diet too. I think the research will keep me busy! I still can't quite believe the off-hand manor that comes along with the diagnoses and it seems I'm not the only one to have this experience. Lucky...

    Strange experience of diagnoses

Thank you all so much for your replies! There's certainly more information here than I got that day from the nurse. I'll have a good read and digest what I've read so far. I have looked at the low carb diet too which is totally the opposite of the type of diet I was brought up on. So some...

    Strange experience of diagnoses

Sorry I should have said it's type 2 (at least that's what I'm guessing, I haven't actually been told! ) Also, I did try and ask questions but these seemed to annoy her. She suggested I go to the local diabetes group that meet during the day (when I'm at work)

    Strange experience of diagnoses

As I'm over 50 I have annual blood tests for cholesterol, diabetes etc. This year, a few days after my blood test, I received a call from someone at my doctors surgery who just said that I needed to come in and see the nurse as soon as possible "to talk about your diet" I asked why and she said...
