    I'm having trouble drinking water!!

Sorry, do you have a pre-existing problem with drinking water or is this something new? I have never been told that we diabetics have to drink 2L of water a day. Are you trying to drink too much at once?

    Hypo detection dogs

Someone local to me trains these dogs, have met and spoken to them a couple of times. The dog recognises when it's owners blood sugar is too low and is also trained to detect cancer. Absolutely amazing and hugely expensive.

    Work

Maybe look for another job? If you were able to drop a day then where do you go if your feelings towards your job get worse? Drop another day? And another? Get physically checked out to make sure there is no underlying reason. If not, then you really need to look at making positive changes in...

Would you wear this Google eye lens for Diabetes

I only wear my contacts when running and this technology excites me. My ideal running aid would be these lenses transmitting by BG levels to a device, ie a watch, so I could see exactly what my levels were doing. GOOGLE - GUINEA PIG RIGHT HERE!!

Cambridge News - Issues in School

5 hypos in 24 hrs ..... seriously what did I do wrong??

3 JB's would certainly do the trick for me. It's always difficult advising as we're all different but I would want to be higher then 5.4 going to bed. The tricky part is knowing what your levels are doing. Eg. I often do go to bed with BG between 5 & 6 but I eat around 8pm and I eat a lot of...

    What should I do?

Have you noticed a significant difference in how much insulin you are injecting since you started carb counting? The only real change in your routine appears to be starting to count carbs – the answer could be in there. It’s not an exact science. I use a 1:15 ratio in the morning and on work...

5 hypos in 24 hrs ..... seriously what did I do wrong??

Shelley, If it was me, I'd cut back the insulatard again and see if it helps. What are you using to stop the hypo's? Are you testing regularly to see how your BG levels are rising? Do you test before bed? In my experience, an illness would normally have the opposite effect and send readings...

    What should I do?

Hi RosieDred, You were only diagnosed in November so the first thing you have to do is cut yourself some slack! Also, if you want to hide in a corner and pout then go ahead J The best tool you will ever have in controlling your BG levels is experience. That, sadly, and unlike diabetes, only...

BMJ on what happens when we know more than HCPs

Expert role? A common misconception. General Practitioner. The GP who diagnosed me did so with a simple urine test, had the knowledge to register that frequent urination, weight loss and high BG levels in a 30 year old = T1 diabetes. He immediately sent me off to hospital. Job done. GP's are...

    Major Problems

As far as I'm aware being T1 diabetic pretty much makes you susceptible to anything and everything. That's my experience from speaking to the doctor, physio, dentist, optician and chiropodist!!

    Yoghurt - low fat?

My Wife must have picked up a dozen different types of yoghurt in the supermarket the other week and each one went back on account of the sugar content. In a 100 years time people will be able to collate all of these individually ground breaking studies to develop a "perfect" diet. I fear that...

    Is diabetes a sugar intolerance?

Do MP's have blood?? That's a direct question to any MP's out there. The answer will almost certainly be five minutes of waffle about how important blood is to each and everyone of us and everyone should have access to it and it sounds like a good idea as long as it is circulating properly and...

    Is diabetes a sugar intolerance?

I have only ever had flu once, end of Feb 2007. In bed for 4 days. One year later I was diagnosed type 1. Coincidence?

    Medical Receptionist RANT

In all honesty I'm not fussed if the GP's know what goes on or not - that's why there are Practise Managers to deal with the day to day running of the surgery and leave the GP's to get on with treating people. Receptionists are just like every human being in the country and that means you are...

    Struggling with Control

Hi Rossi, welcome! I can't really say how to beat the cravings but if your testing your BG levels daily and looking for patterns then what are you seeing? If it is that the sweet treats are pushing your levels too high then try cutting them out for one day and see what results you get. You may...

Type 1 Insulin Dependent Diabetes and JSA

Fortunately, I am not in a position to have to worry about it at present, and, touch wood, hopefully never will be! To my limited knowledge, medical records can be requested if there is a medical issue going on which involves disciplinary action. It would be interesting to know if anyone has...

Type 1 Insulin Dependent Diabetes and JSA

After receiving the job offer, but before signing a contract, I was asked to fill in a medical questionnaire. Not sure if this is common practise or not. Had the offer been withdrawn at that stage and I claimed discrimination, I doubt very much the prospective employer would have said "it's...

    Is diabetes a sugar intolerance?

Yes and no. Tolerate. 2. be capable of continued subjection to (a drug, toxin, or environmental condition) without adverse reaction. Well, as a T1 diabetic I can't be subjected continuously to sugar as my pancreas does not produce enough insulin to deal with it. So, yeah, I have sugar...
