    How were you told?

Especially because we are talking about a condition that is widespread and from what I am reading it's so widespread to be an huge cost to NHS, and one the key factor to control the condition is being people aware and educated. We aren't talking about keratocounus or Pellucid Marginal...

    How were you told?

Received a letter from blood bank with exam blood results and a note saying that I had to repeat the test because either they have messed up the sample or I could have some condition. Repeated the tests, received another letter with the advice to go to the GP. GP said that maybe I was diabetic...

Should we start talking about “Low Fructose” instead of “Low Carb”……

The fact are known: in an healthy diet is useful to avoid foods with added sugar and fructose is a sugar. So HFCS and table fructoses being added sugar should be avoided. NHS: https://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/Goodfood/Pages/Top-sources-of-added-sugar-in-our-diet.aspx And there's a paper from Diabetes...

    How do you tell people

Type 2 hasn't nothing to do with lifestyle too. Unfortunately there's a trend to associate a stigma with diabetes and obesity due misinformation on mass media. Even people that are diabetic are convinced otherwise, so the general public who talks about full fat coke or thinks that diabetes is...

Has this forum lost the plot?

I'll use this only on blatant problems, that luckily I've nevere encountered here. It's true that there there are some members that I put in ignore list, because I found them rude, but because it's a really subjective matter I think it's better to use the ignore.

Has this forum lost the plot?

@Bluetit1802 exactly. If I find that there's a thread that is drifting I simply stop to follow it. If there's a problematic user, I'll put in the ignore list. Maybe it's because I've seen these behaviour back in BBS and USENET times, but I am not saying that DCUK is losing the plot.

Supersized chocolate bars and high-calorie confectionary to be banned in hospitals

I think that chocolate makers will be happy to make sugar free chocolate, like this in vending machines. By the way I have an elderly relative that is in hospital due a bad ankle infection, and the food the hospital is giving is not top quality: mashed potatoes are like concrete, pasta is...

    Butter or no Butter

@Kristin251 Peanut oil is if you like to fry something. You could also use olive oil (not the extravirgin oil because the flavour and the cost), or sunflower oil to fry. @Brunneria They're using palm oil that is rich of saturated fats and an extract of plant sterols. And exactly what are plant...

    Butter or no Butter

Is that some margarine-like spread? In this case, may I suggest to swap butter as much as you can with olive oil or peanut oil?

    Goodbye

Can't agree more I have read this thread and I have a couple of things to say about the question. I have followed both the threads and didn't find anything rude or offensive. What I see is that there are some people, not only @AM1874 that have found the right combination of diet, testing and...

    How do yo cope

Unfortunately in most case are relatives. And anyway it's a difficult thing, you can easily spot ass-holes, but for well-meaning people that are ignorant about diabetes its a difficult thing: Remember that people is hammered with advertising that promotes as healthy sugary drinks, refined...

    How do yo cope

Unfortunately the punctual problem could be resolved, for example instead of lasagna sheets you could make crêpes with eggs and only a bit of whole wheat. But I think this is the general problem you have with people that could take really personally the fact you're not eating.

    How do yo cope

This is easy - said the truth. "I shouldn't eat potatoes, pasta, bread, or rice, no added sugars and starches, also gluten free ones aren't ok, and only some fruits because I have a health problem. I can't drink a lot of alcohol and anyway I don't like sweet beverages". If you move from a broad...
