    Diabetes has ruined my life

I don't resent being diagnosed with D at all. I was so ill at diagnosis I was sure it was the big C (again), and that I might not have the strength to beat it this time. Being D meant lifestyle alterations, yes limiting at first, but as you turn your life around and get back to better health...

    Illness and type 1

Hi @Kelly95 You will find other conditions piling in as your resistance is lowered when you have an illness. It's common and not just applicable to people with D; however because we have become more aware of our bodies quirks, we notice it more. I am battling a cold at present, determined not...

    Anyone have problems with Sudafed?

Sudafed tablets raise my BGs quite alarmingly, however in liquid form there is minimal change. I don't generally suffer with blood pressure either way, so that's never been an issue for me.

    Type 2 Very Dry Skin

A lot of soaps/shower gels will dry your skin out; try looking for ones which contain Aloe Vera - I find them very good for keeping the skin moist. I tried but didn't get on with E45; It gave a burning sensation and didn't absorb very well. I have a great pharmacist who recommended Diprobase...

Decision to abandon LCHF just for Christmas

Simply put - just don't go mad with the extra carbs; your body won't thank you for it. Remember also that your taste may have changed, and high-carb foods you thought you had been craving for may now not taste as great as you remembered them. Last year I stuck to my 20-50g carbs per day...

    Low carb

@CHIET1 Firstly great to hear from someone with similar circumstances; your experiences do sound very familiar. I don't as a rule do ANY intensive exercise, merely two 20-30 minute brisk walks with the dogs each day. If I have taken on excess carbs, I will simply extend the length of these...

    How many carbs per day?

I used lchf to eliminate (over time) the hypers and hypos to great effect. My BGs now remain steady in the 4's and 5's during the day only rising to high 6s or low 7s with DP first thing then rapidly falling with breakfast. By smoothing these swings out, I successfully reduced my multiple daily...

    Low carb

I am currently producing enough insulin naturally to manage on a low carb lifestyle. I am not tested for GAD antibodies as far as I know as there were enough other symptoms to confirm LADA diagnosis as opposed to T2, and due to an HbA1c of 101 with severe hyper complications had to go onto...

    Low carb

@catapillar I would have liked the NHS to have offered me a lchf lifestyle rather than have me take multiple daily injections of insulin as I had to when diagnosed with D. However, even now with the huge different lchf has made to my life, my doctors and DSN who all acknowledge the improvement...

weird thing happen after eating a cherry pie...ideas?

@slinkimalinki I prove most Sunday's that intake of fats at the start of a meal will greatly reduce any BG increase from taking on an 'excess' of carbs; I often take friends out for a meal at our local tea rooms. I start with a cheese salad (this is around 50% made up of 4 different cheeses...

Does low-carbing make you even less tolerant to carbs?

@mariavontrapp At only five weeks in on your low-carb journey, you still have lots for both you and your body to learn about each other. If I am going to have a meal with more carbs than usual, I have found that an increase in fats as a starter can either greatly reduce or actually prevent any...

weird thing happen after eating a cherry pie...ideas?

@dm2-one Did you have any full cream or full fat yoghurt on your pie? If so, that would have helped massively in reducing any spike from the carbs.

Low carb diet and night cramps....help please!11

@dunelm Have you had your magnesium levels checked? Try putting Epsom salts in your bath and having a good soak - it's easily absorbed through the skin, and is a great quick-fix if you are low in Mg.

    Sugar Withdrawal Symptoms?

A quick fix if low in magnesium is to add Epsom salts to your bath water and have a good soak; it's easily absorbed through your skin. I tend to try and maintain my levels through eating magnesium-rich foods such as spinach, pumpkin seeds and pine nuts, though a chance for a good soak and...

    Basal bolus

Hi @dookie That was precisely what I was on (back in the days where I needed insulin). For me it gave few problems and once coupled with a low carb lifestyle, and I was able to reduce the dosages under supervision until I reached the point where I didn't need it at all. The key was the...

    My patience just ran out.

Hi @Guzzler Firstly, we all feel for you right now as most of us have 'been there' at least once in our diabetic journey. I too found information overload at the start, and it was a good five months after diagnosis before my levels had steadied enough for me to see through the fog and...

    Type 2 Dawn Phenomenon

Hi @Anantha71_ How near to bedtime are you having your last meal and does it have enough fat with less than 10g carbs? I can eradicate my DP by having some mild cheese on some low carb biscuits - useful if my readings are higher due to a cold for example.
