    Weight gain

Hi @Josephina7 welcome to the forum. After one week your body will not have fully switched onto burning fats than carbs. I would suggest you allow 3 weeks for your body to fully adjust. How many carbs are you consuming on a daily basis? @daisy1 will be along soon with some general D advice.

Dawn Phenomenon is driving me insane!

Hello @emma13 Firstly WELCOME to the forum. DP is something you will have to get used to I'm afraid, however the best way to tackle it for me has been to avoid eating after 9pm, which will limit my BG rise to around 6.5 - 7 on waking (that's from a bedtime reading usually around 4.8). Are...

    So frustrated

Yes, colds and flu will throw your BG figures up in the air and sometimes you will doubt the meters accuracy as they are so elevated. If you have a diary showing your normal figures from a usual meal, you shouldn't go far wrong, just concentrate on ridding yourself of that cold. Unfortunately...

Hungry and thirsty through the night

@akindrat18 Are you keeping a diary to show what your BGs are at the times you have tested, and what meals you have eaten beforehand? If not, you need to start now so you can build up a clearer picture of what foods are causing you to spike. A BG level of 15.1 is way above reasonable, and you...

    DAFNE Course

I did my DAFNE course over 5 weeks at one day a week. My employers allowed me time off to attend, provided I made up the hours during the course of each week. Being able to attend in this way was very helpful in that; 1. I kept my job! 2. I was able to fully take in all the information given...

    Experience so far...

Hi @Lampman Great to see such a positive post - you will do well with your D management, and no doubt look back in the near future and wonder why you didn't follow this lifestyle earlier! Those of us who are able to manage their D, rather than let it control them, are those with positivity...

Am I the only one with this problem

By far the easiest and best results I have had had been with the Accu-chek Fastclix lancet device. It's also made easier I've found to keep your hands well-moisturised, as all that hand washing before testing does otherwise dry the skin out. Having warm hands at testing time helps, but I do find...

Did you know that LCHF diet for diabetics was available in 1917 ??

Lchf was THE way to treat diabetes prior to insulin being discovered. Of course without an accurate way to check your bloods, it was a bit hit and miss, but in general diabetic people who followed a lchf way of life lived longer and healthier than they would have otherwise. It was sometimes...

    Not doing that again!

Experience is a hard teacher eh? Don't beat yourself up about it - we've all been there (some more times than others), and very quickly you will build up a mental note of which foods are best avoided completely, which you can eat in moderation or a small amount, and which are fine to eat...

    Hello

Welcome to the forum @Tansyrex, @goosey39 and @Luntlel @daisy1 will be along with some general information later. Being diagnosed can be pretty shocking, but far better to be aware of your condition than continuing along the 'old path' which could leave you very ill or worse. I've never...

    Hi :)

Welcome back kaylz91 Pull up a chair, and join us again. Sorry to hear you have had a few hypos recently after some great control; that's D (esp T1) for you. Don't let it get you down, deal with it at the time, and move forward.

Not sure if I should increase or reduce insulin

Hello @Daisyjlg What diet is it you are trying, and over what period? If it is LCHF, then do not be despondent if you see little or no change for the first 3 weeks.

    Forum App isn't 'appy

I've been away from posting on the Forum for a few weeks due to family needing me elsewhere, and the sad loss of a family friend. However I have tried to get on here via the App and have found it VERY limited as to what you can actually do. Very few of the posters details are present, and...

    Low Carb Doctors?

I have found my GP not interested in lchf; they haven't studied it and therefore are unable to advise either way. My consultant however has much more experience of it, and actively encourages it as he can see the huge benefits it has had for both me and other patients. My DSN's whilst also not...

    Water how much

When working from home, I usually drink around 3 litres per day; this will be water with a slice of lemon and keeps my mind crystal-clear for all those figures! When out on the roads, I still get through around 2 litres of bottled water - but this is tempered by the lack of public loos!

    Does it get better?

Please remember that orange juice is a hypo treatment, so if you are eating oranges regularly this will elevate your BGs significantly. Why not try swapping them for raspberries and blueberries?

    Pancreas producing insulin again?

@catapillar I'm LADA and having reduced and stopped my own BI and QA insulin over a 4 month period I'd say it CAN be done. I too achieved this with LCHF, and did so having informed my DSN I was doing it - and whilst they were unable to endorse it as it goes against their current guidelines...

Fed Up - LADA or not?

Hi @Kristin251 Over how many years was your postponement through eating low carb, and what level of carbs was that? I'm interested as I'm in a similar position but much earlier on. I have 30-50g carbs daily, and an abundance of energy I haven't seen for 40+ years!

    Is this normal?

Agree with @Daibell that T1 (and indeed T1.5) is not purely an auto-immune condition. Just my twopenneth... I was diagnosed 28 months ago as LADA, but still have plenty of beta-cells producing insulin, and no auto-immune issues to date. I needed insulin initially due to my hba1c being...
