Labs look great, so what's wrong?

Sobering, but a good reminder not to chuck all caution to the wind with one round of great bloods.

Labs look great, so what's wrong?

I mean, it's been "temporarily" high for 3.5 years (mono was in 2014-5; high bloods were discovered when I was still feeling bad after it was better), but since I was diagnosed it's been pretty well controlled with a low carb diet & increasing doses of metformin. I'm not sure whether it will be...

Labs look great, so what's wrong?

LovingLife, I am really sorry you've had this experience, and lack of care from your HCP. We really do need better care for so many "women's" conditions, including PCOS as well as endometriosis. What makes me the most uncomfortable with my false diagnosis is knowing my data (along with who...

Labs look great, so what's wrong?

My understanding is that one of the things metformin does is reduce liver dumping of glucose into the blood--which I definitely do have an issue with, based on my history of high IFG and exercise causing my sugars to go up instead of down.

Labs look great, so what's wrong?

Yeah, this does make me wonder about reducing/going off metformin someday too. I would love that; it's my only daily med. The confusing part is that it doesn't seem that I was ever insulin resistant, just low insulin production. High blood sugars but no other metabolic syndrome indicators. So...

Labs look great, so what's wrong?

Ha, thanks. I've moved to the USA for a job and have been told that this kind of thing (false diagnosis for insurance coverage) is common here. I'm not really comfortable with it, but don't plan to live here forever so hopefully I can lose it when I return somewhere with an actual health care...

Labs look great, so what's wrong?

I just got a new health care provider who ordered a bunch of blood tests. Long story short, everything came back looking great! And, I'm not really sure what that means. I've been told for the past few years, since my Pre-D diagnosis, that as I was youngish (30's) thin, fit, w/ no family...

Young, fit, thin with insulin resistance?

Your fasting glucose and HbA1c are fantastic! I'm not familiar with this index, but I would probably just keep an eye on things and not worry too much at this point.

    Nausea foods that are LC

Just coming back to say thanks again. I made porridge this morning with almond flour, flax seeds, an egg, and coconut oil (topped with nuts & fruit) and it was amazing. Thank you!

    Nausea foods that are LC

Thanks; a grain free porridge appeals to me so I'll give that a look. I used to make a grain-free granola that was delightful but all the sharp little bits (coconut shreds/seeds/nut pieces) started giving me gum problems. However, cooking would soften that up. I do think it's acid reflux...

    Nausea foods that are LC

Hey there. I've been getting morning nausea lately for some reason and my usual LC breakfast (2 chicken sausages + coffee w almond milk) is not helping. Any ideas for good non-nauseating foods that are low carb? Eggs or anything greasy also seem gross right now, and I'm allergic to dairy. Thanks...

    Fasting bloods

Yes, many things affect FBG, including the quality of sleep you had, what you ate the night before, how warm/cool you are, etc. However, home testing has a pretty big margin of error as well. I have read that home glucose metres have about a 15% margin of error, meaning that the differences...

    Bloods

If you are regularly waking with 7.2 fasting after not eating all night, it sounds as if you may have impaired fasting glucose as well.

    Bloods

I often have that kind of pattern. My liver likes to dump glucose overnight, I hear. Some people seem to have more trouble with fasting glucose, while others seem to have a worse time with glucose tolerance. I don't even have to eat (although I do b/c it makes me feel better); just getting up...

Find it difficult to loose weight

(BTDT = Been There, Done That) Also, I support the idea of focusing on blood sugar #s rather than weight. If you've ruled out other issues (e.g. hypothyroid), I'd keep on low carbing/eating to your meter, exercising healthily, and try to focus on glucose not pounds as much as possible. You may...

Anyone here on low carb doing for long time?

I don't know if 3 years is a long time or not, but I've been eating LC for about 3 1/2 now, I guess. When I started I was very low carb, like 25g/day. Now I am higher but still "low" as in 75-100g/day. I still don't know what's the "best" diet for me, but I know I definitely have trouble with...

Reality check: unintended weight loss, how much is worrysome?

Well, I haven't lost any more this week so I'm less worried now. I'll just continue to keep an eye on things, I guess. I did get an appointment with my new PCP, but they're scheduling for late August now! O_O I'll definitely go and buy myself a new metre & strips at a drugstore before then...

Reality check: unintended weight loss, how much is worrysome?

But eating more carbs shouldn't be making me lose weight. That's my concern. (Unless it's just a blip in which case I'm just being a worrywort.) Hunger is just an annoyance if it's just a feeling and not doing me any harm.

Reality check: unintended weight loss, how much is worrysome?

If I lost that kind of weight I would literally be dead. I'm just trying to keep tabs on my weight in case there are changes that should sound the alarm, but this episode makes me realise I don't know how much change is too much. FWIW, I've been on a LC diet for 3 years now. I went very LC a...

Reality check: unintended weight loss, how much is worrysome?

Okay. Working on it. I'll make more calls tomorrow, hoping offices are open on New Year's Eve. This USA health care business is rot. Do not recommend! I had to wait 3 mos for it to kick in, chase down my card for another month, and now am having trouble finding recommended practitioners covered...
