The Complete Cookery Book for Diabetics - Iris Holland Rogers (1956)

We had that book when I was a kid. Light green hard back, as I remember. My Mum did cook from it in the beginning.

Type 1. How do I get my insulin changed?

Yes, I am with Noblehead. Lantus doesn't work for a lot of people, especially at low doses. There are other insulins such as Levemir and now Tresiba, which may be better for you. Make sure you keep really good records of carbs, blood sugar and bolus insulin for a few weeks and get a diabetic...

    bull ****

This may be different if you are Type 1, as I am, but 100-130mg/dl is within the normal range. In UK money that's 5.6 - 7.2. I don't really see what all the drama is about. Maybe your doctor would like to see lower blood sugars, but those are definitely normal blood sugars. Not one of the...

    Pumping, exercise and BG apps

Blush! My pump is so old, apparently it's practically museum-worthy according to a comment from another forum-user. It's the Medtronic Paradigm 715. It seems to be about three generations "back" compared with what you get in the UK. You know the multinationals always "shift" all their surplus...

    Regular moderate exercise log

Wow! You guys do all the fun stuff! Must encourage the offspring to reproduce so I get another excuse to do that stuff with grandkids before I get too creaky. I had an energetic day in the armchair reading Diabetic Athlete's Handbook (again). And a bit of vacuuming. The exercise is doing wonders...

Would you prefer to be on insulin injections or on a pump?

Yes, it would be much easier to manage.

    Pumping, exercise and BG apps

I'm a bit spreadsheet-averse. One of those things I have "learned" twice in the distant past and then promptly forgotten because I had no use for it. Maybe third times the charm. And I think my pump has a download facility but I wasn't given the cable and that still leaves out the exercise log...

    Type 1 life

Can you imagine a bunch of us sitting in a public place shovelling down the goodies and laughing our heads off! I am happy with my health and lifestyle now, but would I celebrate the cure in style? Oh yes I would!

    Writing BG Management App

Ok, I'll try to get to grips with it this week. Thanks.

    Type 1 life

Yes, I think I might eat something like a big gateau, then go for a run, not worrying about hypos or hypers. In fact, what am I saying? It would be a big thrill to go for a run first, without eating anything, and THEN eat the great big cake! You know, I think I could get behind this cure thing. :)

Trying so willfully to come off T2DM

Waleed, where do you live and who is treating you? Have you considered checking whether you really have Type 1? Not all adults have Type 2. It just might be LADA or 1.5. I ask because you have lost a lot of weight without reversing or even really improving your outcomes. Have you had a GAD test...

Just signed up for a half marathon!

ElyDave runs a lot. Look up some of his posts, check out his blog, private message him. I'm sure he'd swap notes with you.

Trying so willfully to come off T2DM

Yes, the highly processed food is everywhere now. Really hard to avoid! Anyway, keep on beating off that T2. Whether you triumph totally or only partially refusing to be defeated by it will improve your quality of life. Have you tried lifting weights? Supposed to be very effective in T2s even...

How much exercise to lose weight

I rode in London for about thirty years (though not non-stop, obviously ;) ). I was impressed by how generous most car drivers are. Plus cycle shops sell helmets and great maps with suggested routes. Also, there was research into the effects of pollution on cyclists years ago, and it showed that...

    Pumping, exercise and BG apps

Oh yes! I think I do! Thanks, Tim. Very helpful indeed.

    Pumping, exercise and BG apps

I am getting very frustrated, not with my pump, not with my exercise routine, but with BG recording apps. I have downloaded several and tried them out. Not all apps are available where I live (no MySugr for example), and so far I cannot find a single app that allows me to record my basal rate...

    Regular moderate exercise log

There's a thread here about exercising in a wheelchair. It might give you some ideas until you get your mobility back: http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/index.php?threads/Disability-and-exercise.70330/ @Trisha68, you might find that thread useful too. (Anyone know how to do a call-out on a...

    Writing BG Management App

I haven't downloaded your app because I only use what you call "crapple". My PC is old and not portable enough for purpose for a Type 1. But I have been watching the development of your app with interest. And I appreciate very much how responsive you are to feedback. I have a question about...

Trying so willfully to come off T2DM

The fact that we live long enough to contract new illnesses doesn't mean that we cannot. At least, try to combat them. Diabetes is more prevalent in rich countries and is not associated with how long people live. Actually, that isn't true. Diabetes is extremely prevalent all over Africa...
