Met the new DN - hmmm

Strangely my new DN rang me yesterday because I had complained about my inability to sufficiently minimise the Dawn Phenomenon. She said she would look into it and then rang to say she would refer me to the dietician for advice. She made a note of my carb limits for the referral (usually under...

    Low carb, high BP?

    That's excellent!

    Low carb, high BP?

Well I know the results fluctuate but so far I have had 6 BP checks at different times over the past 8 weeks or so (admittedly 3 this morning as the DN wanted the result to be lower!) and all have been above 130/80. Not awful I know, but not great. Previously I've always been below this, except...

    March for Palestine this Saturday

Just wanted to publicise as widely as possible that there is to be a march in London this Saturday run by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign. More details can be found at http://www.palestinecampaign.org/events/march-rally-gaza-free-palestine/ Pass it on.... ;)

Yes, it was all a bit circular.o_O

    Dark chocolate discovery :)

Hate it when that happens. I said 'look at those traffic lights!' (nutritional ones).

    Low carb, high BP?

My BP, always excellent before, has crept up a notch into 'slightly dodgy' since I've gone low carb. Is this an expected phenomenon?

Met the new DN - hmmm

Rather disappointed as I hoped my new DN would be more enlightened. We 'discussed' blood glucose levels ('of course they are higher than normal - you're diabetic', 'but I want to get them as close to normal as possible', 'but you're diabetic' etc.) and diet ('your ketones are really high. You...

    depression,

I am so impressed by your spirit. You have taken steps to engage with people here so I'm sure you have the guts to do it at home. Maybe you could draw strength and gather ideas from us and then take the plunge to seek more involvement with help or with other people around you. I know it is hard...

    LOOK! It's so exciting...

I often look at the unanswered threads and lots of news and research articles come up. This one is great! It says everything we've all said/done/believed/found etc. Researchers recommend carb restriction as primary method of diabetes control

So that explains why it's higher than normal! I don't have an answer I'm afraid but I'm going to try iced drinks now you've pointed out the problem...

    Hair lossing... Anyone?

Ooh there can be lots of reasons for hair loss. If you go to your GP you could get some checked out e.g. thyroid function. Sometimes it can be related to medication. Sometimes it is hereditary. Have women in your family lost hair as they've aged? And is yours being lost mainly from the top of...

    Funny walks

Thanks Jaylee. I'll try to get one sorted although I'm sure it's nothing that major. It's just that it is persistent enough that I keep being reminded there's something not quite right. The last thing I ignored for a year or so turned out to be the diabetes so I've been trying to pay more...

    Funny walks

Jaylee, you have put it more eloquently than I managed! And the vitamin B12 query had also occurred to me Brunneria. I'd feel a bit cheeky asking the GP for a B12 check so soon after twisting his arm for a Vitamin D check! I think I'll run it past the DN first, since I have my annual check on...

    Funny walks

Lately I've realised that I quite often weave around when walking and feel quite heavy-footed so that my hips jar. I also sometimes forget what is happening with my feet when walking downstairs (I can't really describe that very well!) But I also sometimes forget what is happening when I'm...

    Passed out

You need to check it while sitting and then stand up and repeat. If there is a 'postural drop' you are at increased risk of fainting on standing.
