    Exercise better than Insulin

Defo honeymooning - I was snowboarding over Christmas and without my insulin, I'd have been: 1. Very high 2. Very weak Yesterday I forgot to take my insulin and snack before going to the gym... and really knew about it. Was rubbish compared to my usual standards. Probably lifted half the...

    Better to be diagnosed young?

I think I'd have learnt the principles and controls better as a kid - we learn everything best as children. However, I'm glad I didn't have to go through school, puberty, university and growing up (probably in that order  ) thinking about diabetes. I was diagnosed at 29 and was...

    T1 Travel Insurance

Hi Major, I have found Elephant travel insurance very good. And being insured for Type 1 diabetes seems to have affected my premium very little. My wife's back pain due to a recent car accident DOUBLED our premium... so that gives you an idea of the effect. As long as it's well managed with...

Damned Doctors Should Be Hung Drawn & Quartered

Simba, Absolutely no doubt in my mind - you need an emergency appointment. Get to A&E or walk into your doctors surgery (don't phone) and tell them what's happened and a doctor will see you immediately. Fujifilm makes some good points - people on here say these things to help. If you're...

    Helloooo

Hi Pascale, Wow - that's a busy schedule and a lot of questions. I have relevant experience in one tiny bit of it, so will talk about that. I have just returned home from Canada and ran out of insulin due to it leaking out of my pen. It disappeared at half a cartridge at a time due to low...

    Diabetes does kill

Ellen, My condolences. I really feel for you and the rest of the family, especially having read about everything you've been through. You've been very brave to bring the subject up the way you have - I hope something positive can come out of this. My thoughts are with you, Sam.

    confused please help?

Hi Ebony, You need to let us know what your bg levels are before you eat, how much carbohydrate you are eating at the affected meals when levels are slow to go down, what type and how much insulin you're taking and what your readings are up to 4 hours after food and any physical activities you...

    Home and Away

Fantastic - can't wait for the assumptions and comparisons. At least as a soap opera, they have to try to address the issue seriously. Imagine how Homer Simpson would deal with T1 diabetes (or has that already been done?)

    Injecting and Alcohol

Bethlain, It's not quite as simple as that. Alcohol has the effect of lowering your blood sugar in the hours after consumption. It is not a case of beer making it go up and spirits bringing it down. If you drink beer all night and do not make any adjustment for that fact in your carbohydrate...

    moody and irritable

Hi Curleous, What you're going through sounds very similar to what I went through earlier this year. I was mainly depressed and feeling down most of the time, but also got snappy and irritable, especially with my wife. I'm not perfect, and still have the odd 'Grrrr' moment, but I've got to...

    Injection Sites

If you're replacing the needle fairly regularly and get into a routine, you can find enough sites on your stomach without having to worry. I use the right hand side for lunch, left hand side for dinner and upper thigh (where skin is fairly thick and there's a bit of fat) for breakfast - works...

Got approved for a Pump today!!

Fantastic - well done on all fronts. Definitely want to get my HbA1c nearer to 6. Would be nice to be better than average for a change. Keep us updated on the pump - I'd be interested to listen to your story as it develops... starting from scratch and all that. Blog at all? Sam.

    Question

Non diabetic please!... for a moment I pondered the chances of a solution being found to get the pancreas working again during my lifetime, but that would be a gamble. Not worth taking. Give me a clean bill of health any time.
