What The Deference Between Metformin & Diamicron ?

I too hope you can lower the drugs or eliminate them. But to me that is not the whole story. I am going to sound a bit repetitious, but here goes. My doctor put me on a no-drug treatment, but he made it clear that if my HbA1c had been high (and your September 29 test result, given in another...

    Injections Next Week

Editing my post to remove the original text. I made the mistake of not checking what sub-forum this was posted in, thus did not realize the steroid treatment was for retinopathy. Big mistake, and I apologize for that. Best wishes, as always. Some more knowledgeable people will probably be...

What The Deference Between Metformin & Diamicron ?

@hichamgsm: I would listen to @RosieLKH who has personal experience with the complexities of "managing" Diamicron/Gliclazide. Also, but this is just my feeling rather than a researched fact, I suspect that a one-day "experiment" may not provide useful information anyway.

    Nearly died at the A & E

Wishing you good luck. What an experience you've had. You are already doing the right things and I hope it gets better over time.

    Well, hello again...

@fergus you have been at this for 17 years and all's well. That is important news for those of us who are new to this low-carb lark, either because they are recently diagnosed or because they came late to the low-carb party. Low-carb is still controversial but seems to be making inroads...

What The Deference Between Metformin & Diamicron ?

I don't know much about this because I am not taking diabetes drugs, but I hope other posters can relate their experience of removing Diamicron (Gliclazide class). Personally, if I were taking that drug, removing it is something I would only do with the advice of my doctor.

    Prediabetes

Personally I don't worry about hypos. This is because (like you) I am not taking drugs and my current blood glucose levels are below the diabetic range. My chance of having a hypo is not zero, because even people who don't have diabetes or pre-diabetes can have a hypo. But I think it is very...

    Prediabetes

I don't know for sure what your HbA1c was at the time of diagnosis. But the first reading you provided in your first post is 6.2%. In America, that is not diabetes, but "pre-diabetes." It means that there is a risk that you will develop diabetes, if you do not change your lifestyle and...

    Prediabetes

Your fear is understandable. Being diagnosed with diabetes can be scary. It sounds like you have been trying to adapt to the disease for the past two years. I can only speak from my experience. I was not "afraid" of the low-carb diet but I was, I must admit, very "skeptical" about whether it...

    Prediabetes

It is an individual choice. I decided to use the "very low carb" diet (fewer than 30g per day) and it worked for me. But my HbA1c was much higher than yours is now. We are all different.

What The Deference Between Metformin & Diamicron ?

@hichamgsm: The information provided by the previous posters is great. Another thing to keep in mind is the "progression" used by doctors when treating Type 2 diabetes. The first drug is often Metformin. If they want to add a second, stronger drug they often go to Diamicron (or Gliclazide...

    Goodbye

I have been eating a lot of both. I always ate a lot of cheese, so that is not a change. I hardly used to eat nuts at all. Then when I went on the low-carb diet, nuts (specifically macadamia and pecans) became my go-to snack to ward off hunger. They are a great appetite-cutter and have fat and...

There is a major butter shortage in France (of all places!). The reasons are multiple. Article here (in French): http://www.lefigaro.fr/conso/2017/10/11/20010-20171011ARTFIG00285-pourquoi-vous-ne-trouvez-plus-de-beurre-dans-votre-grande-surface.php. Quite possibly; only your doctor can confirm that. The question of "high level of bad cholesterol" is controversial but I don't know much about it. Perhaps someone on this forum can provide more perspective. I have just looked at your first post again. It does not sound like a low-carb diet at...

    Goodbye

My goodness. It is amazing how conflicting the messages are. I can relate to what that heart surgeon is saying (above link) because the dietary advice he is criticizing is the one I followed to the letter for 30 years. I was following (and still do follow) a low-fat option but clearly I had...

I think the experience of @OrsonKartt given above is excellent information. It is encouraging that your doctor asked you to reduce carb intake and has not prescribed drugs. Well done for reducing your weight and increasing exercise! My doctor also gave me advice to reduce carbs, and said he...

    "Ketone Supplements" Anyone?

This may be old hat to many of you but is new to me. There is an article today in the New York Times about a new study on "ketone supplements" that are designed to mimic the effect of a low-carb, high-fat (LCHF) diet. It sounds like an awfully bad idea to me! "Ketone supplements that are...
