    Brand new, fresh diabetic!

Firstly don't let it get you down. It's a terrible shock when you are first diagnosed, but stress will raise your blood glucose still further. There are so many people in this group who have been where you are now who have taken positive action and have got their own BG under control. Spend...

    1st week a diabetic

I'm not an expert, but I do know that a reading off the scale on a BG meter is potentially very serious. My advice is to get to the A&E department of your local hospital and tell them you feel like you are going to pass out. They will investigate properly and hopefully get you on the road to...

    Dismayed!

Do you have any blood glucose/HBa1c etc history that you can post? As I understand it T1 is a complete collapse of the body's insulin production system, so you should have had some pretty scary blood test results until it was brought under control.

    Success

A big thank you to this group for introducing me to the low carb diet and all the support I have had in the three months since I was diagnosed. I had the results of the HBa1c test today: At diagnosis three months ago- BMI 28.7 HBa1c 53 Today - BMI 25.1 HBa1c 42 My doctor was...

Newbie with type 2 and diviticular disease

Sorry to hear about your woes. I have T2, IBS and diverticular. I have found that lots of fibre helps enormously with all of them. We are all different but it might be worth a try

Can a one-off meal really set back and ruin your results?

Good idea but best to ask them to leave out the salad dressing.

Help! My weight loss has stuck

Well, changing my diet for a couple of days certainly did the trick. I upped my fat intake for two days. When I weighed myself I was a pound lighter. Then I went back on my original diet and I lost two pounds in two days. The lesson from this- If you get stuck on your diet change it for a...

Help! My weight loss has stuck

That's very useful thanks. Reading other members experiences has helped me to manage my expectations. I think the situation is confusing because a few individuals have successfully cured themselves in that they can eat reasonably normally providing they keep their weight down. It seems to me...

Does Low Carb have any other benefits ?

Gald to hear I'm not the only one who is feeling so much better on the LCD. I still wonder if it was the Bisoprolol that I was prescribed for my irregular heartbeat that triggered the T2 in the first place as I was pretty fit, ate quite well and wasn't really overweight when it struck...

Help! My weight loss has stuck

Thanks I've been away and only just picked up on this. The problem is of course that there are so many theories about health, diet, fitness and weight that none of us really knows which view to follow. I set out in November to try to reverse my diabetes. Despite the weight loss, exercise and...

Help! My weight loss has stuck

Are you talking about you BG result first thing in the morning? If so it's probably the dawn phenomenon which is usually caused by your liver dumping glucose into your blood to get you ready for the day. It's very common and it is usually the last thing to improve as your BG falls. Don't...

Does Low Carb have any other benefits ?

I have been on a low carb diet since November. 2017. My BMI has fallen from 28.9 to 25.3. Apart from the dietary change I have cut out alcohol (I drank to the max of medical guidelines most weeks) and I increased my exercise from weekend rugby refereeing to at least an hour of moderate to...

Help! My weight loss has stuck

I confess that I have resisted the temptation to count carbs and calories. I did go a bit mad on nuts and seeds for a time, but it was Christmas so nuts were plentiful in our house. My family think I'm nuts by the way. They have been brainwashed by the 'low carb, low calorie' camp and they...

Help! My weight loss has stuck

I have a light breakfast. I tried a slice of ryebread with eggs initially, but realised pretty quickly that it was too many carbs. Now I have eggs on ham or sometimes celery with peanut butter.

That is certainly worth a go thanks. I work for myself so eating a late breakfast is not a problem

Help! My weight loss has stuck

I'll certainly give it a go thanks. I eat a moderate amount of fat. I have protein with most meals, but not excessively so.

Type 2 After 6-months of LCHF

I worry about all the chemicals they put in fast food. I know it's very difficult to avoid additives as they are a feature of modern food production. (And yes, even organic foods contain some things they shouldn't. It's in the air all around us) Personally, I would rather eat foods that at...

Help! My weight loss has stuck

I tend to weigh myself every day. Now I know a lot of people say don't do that, but statistically people who do so lose more weight. I imagine I was eating roughly twice the number of calories I am now before I started my diet, so it seems odd that I was stable then and now. I'm sure it will...

Help! My weight loss has stuck

Bodies are certainly complicated things. So is diabetes come to that. Everything seems to raise your BG and only hard work and near starvation get it down and then only if you are one of the lucky ones. Actually I currently think getting type 2 has been good for me. I had a number of ailments...

Help! My weight loss has stuck

Thanks I don't measure calories, but I would estimate I eat less than 1500 a day. I tried going down to 800 a day at first, but I couldn't keep up exercise at that calory level. I' thinking that you are right and I need to experiment. I will know more after I get my HBa1C results on 15th.
