Anyone here recover from burning feet and/or hands?

My feet burned off and on for about three months as my BS numbers fell. A year on and they are fine.

Type 2, metformin and not blood monitoring do I need to self isolate?

SD Codefree strips are £7.99 for 50 online. They are accurate (I can estimate my HBA1c results from the average of my own readings. The meters are £12.99 online.

    Coronavirus

I think the general advice is that the higher your BG levels the more at risk you are. No one really knows for sure. This is a new virus and even the experts can't be completely sure how things will work out, but doing everything you can to improve your health, is a good thing whether it helps...

    Heavy legs whilst running

I'm not a medical expert, but are you taking statins? I have read they can cause muscle pain and heaviness. If so you might like to ask your doctor to try you on different statin.

    Coronavirus age 44

I have read that in Japan, no one under the age of 50 had died from Coronavirus. Try to stop worrying. It doesn't help

    Lindt Dark Chocolate

I only eat Lindt 90% because it has less carbs than any other high cocoa chocolate I have found. I have tried 95% cocoa, but that was just a bit too bitter for me (and twice the price to boot). I have heard that cocoa lowers blood sugar levels, but its probably best not to eat enough to prove...

    COVID 2019 Comorbidity with Diabetes

My view is that it's impossible to lead a life without taking risks. Never leave your house and you will never die in a car accident, but a plane could fall on your house tomorrow. This virus has been around for months, yet only a tiny proportion of the worlds population has been infected...

Can you take blood from anywhere?

The fact it stings is actually good news as it tells you that your nerve endings haven't been destroyed by diabetic neuropathy

Can you take blood from anywhere?

Are you pricking the end of the finger? If so, it will hurt as that is where the most nerve endings are. It's much less sore if you prick the side of the finger adjacent to the nail bed.

The wheels came off today, but ...

Timing the blood test is important too of course. Some peoples BG spikes an hour after eating, other two hours or more after the first bite. Test too early after a meal and you can kid yourself into thin king that the carbs have had no effect.

    Type 2 newly diagnosed

It's so easy to worry about your condition and make things worse. When I was diagnosed I read as much as I could about diabetes. Finding this site was the big turning point for me. BUT, it's very important that you remember that people who post on this site are not doctors. Many of us think...

    Recently diagnosed T2, bit confused.

It's a big step to replace carbs with fat, but it really does work. A total cholesterol reading is useless. You need a full lipid range test so that you know how much good and bad cholesterol you have. Cut the carbs and you will stop feeling hungry, the weight will fall off and you will have...

The wheels came off today, but ...

My advice is to always test again if you get a result that is unexpectedly high or low. If I ate that lot my BG would be above 10. I diet carefully and my last HBA1c was 39 (53 at diagnosis 2 years ago).

Not sure where to put this...but eye shot question?

I have had 25 shots for a branch occlusion (bleeding) from a vein in my eye. It feels like I have a log in my eye the day I have the shot, then much better the next day. I sometimes get floating spots for a while, but they always go after a day or two. 25 shots is unusual, but nothing else...

Glucose levels rising between waking and breakfast

This post is much more relevant to those taking insulin.

Glucose levels rising between waking and breakfast

I would think it's your liver producing sugar to get you ready for the days activity. It happens to everyone, it's just that we diabetics don't produce enough insulin to prevent our BG levels rising. T2 diabetics can sometimes reduce the effect by eating something just before they go to bed...

    High blood sugar levels

I agree with the other replies. Hospital diets are decidedly unhealthy and not just because they contain carbs. You could try taking meals in for him for a few days. Unprocessed meats, oily fish, cheese, nuts, seeds and salads are all low carb. I live on these foods and my BG rarely goes...

Worried about sat fat intake and strokes?

I feel we are living through a transition. Evidence is growing that saturated fat is at worst, neutral and at best, good for us. The conventional medical world is finding it hard to accept that fat was wrongly demonised for decades when carbohydrates were the real culprit, but the evidence is...
