    After Some Advice....

Carbs are the problem, so the bread/pasta/rice advice, while not bad, is not great either. This should raise your fibre, which will help a little but you'll see a better result reducing carbs instead. Where you are just over the threshold, maybe a small change is all you need for now. The...

    Confused with diet.

The advice you're getting has never reversed anyone's type 2 diabetes. I got the same advice in the beginning and was told my diabetes was chronic, progressive and inevitable. I would gradually worsen until I die, and lifestyle factors would only slow the progression. My doctor has now...

    Freestyle trial question

Any idea why? Just curious...the web site says as long as you have diabetes and didn't do a free trial of the Libre before you should be eligible. No free trials here in Canada (yet). I'm hoping that changes.

What is a dangerous HbA1c level

For what it;'s worth, this is a pretty good meta-analysis quantifying the effects of metformin: https://care.diabetesjournals.org/content/diacare/35/2/446.full.pdf Short story: Metformin as a monotherapy lowers HBA1c by about 1.12%. This does NOT mean dropping the HBA1c by 1.12% of what it...

What is a dangerous HbA1c level

I tried to find info on what different levels meant for the various complications and it's info that is pretty hard to find. I did find that even moderately elevated blood glucose, sustained over time, creates a significant increase in risk for retinopathy and heart disease. The way I think it...

    Freestyle free trial

In Ontario Canada, my private insurance will only cover CGM if I'm insulin dependent. I've been thinking about buying one or two sensors to do some food testing and fasting testing, but it's a luxury I cant really afford at the moment. I'd love to know what my body gets up to when I sleep or...

    Amount of daily carbs.

FWIW, I find that bouncing between low carb and "less low" tends to just prime the carb cravings, so I would find this a slippery slope to failure. Although it's true there's no magic to keto, there is a synergy in getting fat-adapted in that it tends to help moderate hunger. That said, 50g...

    Help , newly diagnosed

Low carb high (healthy) fat has worked for a lot of people, especially early in diagnosis. You have a great opportunity to catch it early here and avoid the slippery slope. Good luck.

When should I measure my fasting level?

Any time between when you get up and when you eat would be a valid fasting level, but your actual level may vary over that period of time. Many people (me included) have dawn phenomenon, so waiting a bit would yield a better (and hopefully more accurate, or at least useful) result.

    Insomnia Metformin

I had insomnia when my glucose was uncontrolled but I've never had an issue sleeping on keto or metformin. Currently on both.

    Back to basics

Best of luck. I hope your new GP is more helpful to you, but even if not, you can still do this.

    HBA levels

I'm wondering what "low carb didnt work" means. How low, and for how long? It's the single most reliable method I know of.

    Looking for keto turkey stuffing...

lots of great ideas. Going to do sausage and onion with either some cauli rice or pork rind. Lots of sage of course...

Quick question about carbs, fats and protein

Your macros should reflect your personal eating plan to suit your needs and intentions. I try to eat keto, as that's really what my body needs to manage. I started keto aiming for 70/20/10 (fat/protein/carb) but I do it differently now. Rather than percentages, I do NET carb under 20g...

    Looking for keto turkey stuffing...

Hey all. Anybody have a turkey stuffing recipe that is keto and is worth putting inside a bird? I'm happy to cook the Christmas turkey hollow if need be, but thought I'd see if anybody has something awesome to share.

    Disastrous Exit From Keto

New account to post a single post propagating mis-information that is antagonistic towards an approach that has been broadly successful in this community. I'm going to say either straight up troll, or shill for one of the fringe anti-keto interests. IMO of course. Doesn't look like a joke...

It's all going wrong for me.

FWIW, I've been on both those drugs for 2 years, and the ramipril even longer. I never had any side-effects of either one. The flozen has been good to me. I even lost some weight on it. Agreed with others, it makes you prone to UTIs and I think the last thing you want is to start feeding...

    Disastrous Exit From Keto

@Hugo_P The studies you quote are... um... flawed. To put it as kindly as I can. A quick search reveals that in the first study, they added 30g of saturated fat to a diet consisting of about 250g of carbs. In fact all of the diets in both of these studies were high carb SAD diets. Nothing...

Carb-heavy breakfast today...what should BG do?

My BG peaked at +2.1 mol/l at 90 minutes. At 120 was +1.9, and at 150 was at +.9. So I'm inside the guidelines but just barely.
