Bolus ratio keeps changing, exhausted with it all!

I’d forgotten about this thread after asking, total brain fog! I have a half unit pen and it’s so handy - you can also double check how many units you have injected afterwards which is great too. Sorry your hbac1 wasn’t great, mine was disappointing too and higher than the Libre estimate. I did...

Bolus ratio keeps changing, exhausted with it all!

Thanks, is it not quite tricky not knowing a rough carb ratio? Yes, low carb is definitely easier and some days I admit defeat and cut the carbs out but I’m very slim and struggle to keep my weight up without them. Do you think being female makes the carb ratio more difficult to stabilise...

Bolus ratio keeps changing, exhausted with it all!

Thanks, this isn’t great is it. Ugh. I’ve never known diabetes without perimenopause as diagnosed this year age 47. It’s very erratic and is a total rollercoaster. I might ask my diabetes nurse about HRT, trying to cope with hormones and also IBS flare-ups feels impossible. Thanks, hope you...

Bolus ratio keeps changing, exhausted with it all!

Thanks, yes hormones can be really tricky just before my period and mid-month I become very insulin resistant. I’m also peri menopausal so that’s maybe also having an impact. Ugh.

Bolus ratio keeps changing, exhausted with it all!

Thanks, that’s reassuring - I think I just assumed everyone had their ratio and that was that whereas I have to see how lunch goes and try and guess the ratio to apply for dinner from that (also factoring in exercise) and just as I get confident it’s all up in the air again. Maybe the...

Bolus ratio keeps changing, exhausted with it all!

Hi, I was wondering if it’s normal to have to keep changing carb ratios a few times a month? I think I’m still honeymooning and my nurse said I was very insulin sensitive (not sure what this actually means) I go from 1:35 for a week then 1:25 then 1:15, back to 1:30 and now 1:10. I’ll probably...

Are you open about diabetes or embarrassed about it?

I’m quite open about it, I didn’t know anything about diabetes until having to educate myself with my diagnosis this year. My boyfriend and eldest daughter are a bit embarrassed about it though, admitting they didn’t want to tell their friends because of the overweight/unhealthy diet assumptions...

    Diabetes & Alcohol

I’ve given up drinking altogether since type 1 diagnosis early this year. Hangovers were getting pretty bad in my forties anyway and I’m too anxious of hypos to be able to enjoy it I think. I do miss wine and beer though, maybe I’ll have some one day but never as much as I used to drink I imagine

Type 1.5 Bolus after a meal

Thanks, pineapple sounds so good and I might try grapes. I’ve heard them called sugar-bombs before so I have avoided them! So far I’ve tried satsumas, peaches, all berries and apples and not had a rise - pretty much cut out fruit after diagnosis but it’s good to know it’s not a problem for me...

Type 1.5 Bolus after a meal

Thanks, I’ll maybe try that - it’s good for the gut too isn’t it. I’ve tried blueberries and apple but don’t get a rise but will try others as I would rather have that than sweets. It’s funny, I’ve been terrified of fruit, other than berries, since diagnosis but it doesn’t seem to cause the high...

Panic about what to eat, starting insulin this week

Hi there, it’s so tricky isn’t it (diabetes) - are you still in the honeymoon period so you think? I can’t help with weight loss I’m afraid as I’m still struggling to keep weight on which gets me down too. Do you have a dietician to speak to? I kept bugging my diabetic nurse, leaving garbled...

Type 1.5 Bolus after a meal

Thanks, that’s interesting about waiting for the drop. Does yoghurt give you a quicker boost? I’m still struggling to find something to lift me up quickly that’s not jelly babies or fruit juice. Split bolus does seem quite a lot of trial and error, I’ll have another shot once my carb ratio...

Type 1.5 Bolus after a meal

Thanks, I’m not enjoying this honeymoon period at all! My carb ratios go up and down every few days, my basal has been up and down and back up (with nurses advice) and I just don’t know where I am half the time or even how to eat. Carb ratio is currently 1:25 but probably only for two days...

    Womens problems

Hi, I find my blood sugar is a nightmare around my period and really hard to control. My diabetic nurse suggested keeping a diary of what happens so I can prepare for it and adjust insulin around about that time. I tend to go high a few days/a week before and a couple of days in. As if this...

Type 1.5 Bolus after a meal

Hi, I’m finding I have to bolus after meals regardless of what it is and wondering if that’s ‘normal’ Is it possible to have slow digestion without having the symptoms of gastroparesis? The meals aren’t particularly high fat or excess protein based but I tend to go low before the food kicks...

    Blood sugar rising despite Novorapid

Thanks, that’s really reassuring. Have an appointment for tomorrow, had to explain type 1 and importance to be seen to receptionist but hoping I’ll get some kind of temporary filling or something

    Injection sites bruising/bleeding

Hi, I have lots of bruises on my tummy this week suddenly! Mainly yellow but a big dark one too! I’ve been having a fairly hormonal week so maybe conincides x

    Blood sugar rising despite Novorapid

Thanks so much, I think it’s a mixture of period hormones and a bad tooth! Typically it’s the weekend!! I’ll call the dentist tomorrow and hopefully be seen tomorrow. Thanks again
