    Do I meet the criteria?

Hi, thank you both for your replies. I basically wondered that despite the Endo recommending I should consider having a trial, would I be assessed first to see whether I am actually really suitable? For example, would it be a case of "Oh well, try this first or that first" before looking at...

    Do I meet the criteria?

Hi, had my annual review last week and the consultant was concerned about my hypos and diagnosed me with impaired hypo awareness. She just came right out and asked if I had ever considered a pump. She wanted to refer me to the consultant DSN who runs the pump clinic for a trial. I said OK then...

    Almonds side effects

Nuts can be a big trigger for gastro issues. I never had a problem with any nuts, including almonds, and would eat up to 100g mixed nuts for a couple of months at a time to top up on my calorie intake and help me gain weight. However I was doing this just recently (about 60-70g) and they gave me...

When they do your bloods at the clinic...

Hi thanks for your replies. Yes, just wanted to know if there were certain tests that were also performed along with the A1c. I'm going for my annual review next month. Obviously the bloods are done before you go in and see the doctor, but do you think it if I asked the doctor if they could do a...

When they do your bloods at the clinic...

    Seeing DSN instead of Doctor?

I know, ally, I was thinking that myself. It means I will have missed this years review. I think I will actually.

    Seeing DSN instead of Doctor?

Hi, I was due my annual review this week but last week found out at work there was a very important union meeting on the same day/time. I immediately phoned up my clinic asking if I could reschedule. Silly me, didn't realised until after the receptionist cancelled it that b/c the appt is was...

    Type 1 and Dental Issues

Hi niknak, would you say that rinsing your mouth out with water after eating (esp anything sugary) helps at all? I got into that habit a while ago. If I've taken a sugary drink for hyp, for example, as soon as I feel better the first thing I do is give my mouth a swill with some water. Don't...

    Type 1 and Dental Issues

Hi Juicy, I recently posted about dental issue in another thread. Below is my post which I have copied over as it may be relevant to other people with dental issues ****Does anyone ever suffer with intermittent soreness on random areas of their gums? Just to point out, this started to happen...

    Anyone get random sore gums?

Hi Andy, well I've been T1 for 6yrs and I would say this started about 2yrs prior to diagnosis. I know I cold go to the dentist tomorrow and they would say my gums look fine, which they do, it's just these random times when a certain area will get sore. Thanks Catherine, I never thought about...

    Not coping

No worries, I though you were blaming yourself for a minute there :)

    Not coping

Developing T1 diabetes has nothing whatsoever to do with what your diet was like previously, though. I do hope that is something you're aware of, because it's very important. Nothing about it has been your fault.

    Anyone get random sore gums?

Yes, I know it can be in some instances. I was getting this prior to the diabetes, though.

    Not coping

This might sound daft, but try and think of needles as your friend now. It's the injections that will keep you alive and in good health. It can be easier said than done, but I genuinely believe a positive mindset can work wonders and maintain a person's health and wellbeing. Sometimes when...

    Anyone get random sore gums?

Mine has gone on for several years on and off, though, and I've never been diagnosed with any gum problems on visits to the dentist.

    Anyone get random sore gums?

Does anyone ever suffer with intermittent soreness on random areas of their gums? Just to point out, this started to happen shortly prior to being diagnosed as Type 1. Also, my BG is well controlled. Every so often, I will get a sore area on my gum which I only notice when brushing. Usually...

    Can I inject for chocolate?

Yes, I have chocolate, biscuits & cake. I don't go mad and I test to make sure my BG is spiking too high. But I certainly allow myself treats as the rest of my diet is healthy and I'm not anywhere close to being overweight.. I count carbs and so far have never had any problems.

    Sudden increase in insulin needs?

Thanks. TBH, there has really been nothing different going on to suddenly demand an increase. Even when I'll with colds, etc, I never seem to get high sugars. Had a really bad cold in November, but levels stayed fine. I did start experiencing mild PMS symptoms on the 28th Dec, so that might be a...

    Sudden increase in insulin needs?

Thank you, folks. noblehead ~ Yes, I agree. These are acceptable doses. It was just the sudden increase in a matter of week is something new for me and wasn't sure if it was too much of a rise in a short period of time. Things have settled a bit, although, I'm still seing higher than usual...

    Sudden increase in insulin needs?

Hiya :) I've been T1 nearly 6yrs and I must admit to relatively easy control. Always tended more towards hypos than highs (I know hypos aren't good but usually needed to manage them more than highs). This past couple of weeks, though, I've had what I personally would consider for me, a bit of a...
