    Finger pricky thingy

I am very lucky I was able to get my insurance company to pay 70% for the cost of the Freestyle Libre. So mine is a sensor. The specialist I saw got upset when I said the whole process was barbaric and medieval and designed to increase the wealth of the pharmaceutical companies and there...

    Different Carbs?

My endocrinologist a few weeks after putting me on insulin in Feb 2018 told me that measuring carbs was a waste of my time and would not achieve anything. A couple of months later a dietitian at the diabetic clinic gave me more information about the glycemic index, insisting that I should mainly...

    Please help

Low carb and exercise are the answer, @Lowcarb 2 and @Dippydolly . If you are insulin resistant, all the body does is to turn unused carbs into fat. This fat is then available to turn back into glucose. I would always see a big increase in my bg in the morning well before I ate as my body...

    One year a diabetic.

Lots of talk about willpower and motivation which is great but these are often the result of the "stick" inside us - fear, poor health etc. You also need to set goals that you can meet and succeed then set more goals. I started on low carb 15 months ago because I had been sticking needles in my...

Diabetes: Have We Got It All Wrong? (T2D)

See below for the progression of my T2 from Metformin, to insulin and Metformin in 13 years, and my regression to just Metformin in less than a year. I am now at a point where my bg drops below 4.0 4 or 5 times a week, often at nighttime and rarely goes above 8.5 even after meals and only when I...

Why would anybody consider taking this T2 medication

Of course only one sale per patient until you get the side effects which I am sure they have more products to help with more side effects etc. etc. Am I cynical about drug companies that could have come up with safe cures decades ago? Unfortunately cures will have a negative affect on sales...

    Low carb works!

Not sure how far a T1 should go with this but I try and keep lunch and dinner below 20 gms of carbs and breakfast of about 2 gms of carbs. With snacks, my daily targets are 50 gms of carbs, 80 gms of fats and 80 gms of protein. I believe this is low carb (not ultra-low carb) and not very high...

    Low carb works!

Had a quick research of this and it could be. My bg just leaped from 5.1 to 7.7 with no food in 1/2 hour after hitting a low under 5.0 within an hour of a plate of calamari usually my bg goes over 9.0 with this meal.

    Low carb works!

I had exactly the same problem with my feet a few years ago including taking off my shoes at work to try and relieve the itch by scratching. Had to work very deep to have any affect. After I retired this neuropathy and my A1cs gpt worse and worse until I started the low carb program in July...

    Neuropathy Garbage - Type 2

Thanks for the hope. My bg levels are way down. So much that my now covered Freestyle Libre is below my anticipated range of 5.0 to 8.5 more than 20% of the time and over the range only 2% of this time. This is great, I feel great and I have lost about 35lbs in 12 months. My feet? Not so much...

    Good Beginning

I don't think your GP is allowed to stop you having information relevant to your condition. Make sure you get it so that you can effectively monitor how, how much and how fast you are succeeding - because you can and will.

MS or nerve pain and how Myelin is important in protecting nerve responses.

The naturopath also recommended Enzyme Q-10, This was quite low priced for 6 months supply but doesn't seem to be doing anything. I'll finish the bottle and see what happens. Meanwhile I am searching for a 'cure' for the neuropathy that is very painful but no numbness in my feet yet. I do some...

GP said it can take more than two years to get normal glucose levels.

Thanks and yes you have certainly seen the significant results of the Low Carb and the insulin.

    Good Beginning

Well done @Lynn O Don't get upset if the weight loss does not continue at the same rate. I've lost 35 lbs in a year and now I am reducing at about 5lbs in 2 to 3 months though I don't want to lose much more. I am now where I was over 50 years ago trying to put weight on to play rugby at school...

MS or nerve pain and how Myelin is important in protecting nerve responses.

Hi @ickihun . I am taking ALA at the suggestion of a diabetic nurse. My family doctors had never heard of it. The nurse said that I could take up to 1800 mg per day. A naturapath doctor suggested 2x300 mg R-ALA but this did not work for me. I take 4x400 mg of the non-R a day and I know within...

    Feeling rubbish when waking

I am also on 2x500 mg of Metformin a day and take one tablet at breakfast and another later in the evening. The later one because I had a significant increase in my bg level from just before to a couple of hours after waking - the dawn phenomenon. You seem to have the opposite and I am now going...

GP said it can take more than two years to get normal glucose levels.

It does seem that the fat higher in the abdomen is either a symptom or cause of diabetes. Personally I think a symptom because when the muscles stop absorbing glucose because of insulin problems, the unused glucose is turned to fat. Where better for the body to store fat than close to the liver...

GP said it can take more than two years to get normal glucose levels.

Well done Swiggy. My A1cs went up and up and up for 12 years until I started on the low carb a year ago. You don't say anywhere what your weight is but I have dropped 35 lbs in 12 months and I think I seem to have used up all the extra fat that my liver used to dump more glucose until my body...

    Sleep

If I have a disturbed sleep - several wakings, maybe awake for 1 to 2 hours etc. my bg levels always increase. As I have a Libre I can see how the bg levels increase as I am waking then drop when IO fall asleep. If I wake early and stay up the graph just shows a continual increase. I am finding...

On and off pain in my first big toe

I agree with Mr_Pot (Bill or Ben?). Could be several things and Shaparon, you need to see a doctor. If it is a neuropathy, I have been taking pregabalin for several years. This just helps the brain to stop recognizing and reacting to (pain) messages from the hyper-sensitive nerves in the hands...
